The contents of the EIU link to the report is accurate. I get e-mail update from the EIU regularly (sent to me by the Chief Economist, Robin Brew). In fact, I received the April edition today from him and Ghana is 78th on the 2012 World Democracy Index out of 176 countries. Ghana is in what is called Flawed Democracies. The only African country on the list of Full Democracies is Mauritius which came 18th above the US which is 20th. Cape Verde tops the Flawed Democracies on number 26th, followed by Botswana on 30th and South Africa 31st positions respectively.

It's a very interesting index and I may send a copy to Ghanaweb.

His children are in some of the best schools in USA. If we are going to agree to his suggestions to take to the streets, then I suggest to him to first move himself and his entire family to Ghana to lead us in any demonstrations that he has suggested. We in Ghana are not cowards, but we need somebody like him to lead in any organized demonstrations. He should also be bold enough to face the bullets and not to run away when such situation arises. My cousin who is a constituency NPP chairman in Ashanti Region has warned all members in our family never to take part in any demonstrations in the name of the electoral fraud. No one can accurately predict the outcome of a case before a court of law. A case is decided one way or the other on the basis of evidence presented and the quality of arguments by counsel.Hence in some instances, a case that upon a cursory look appears to have no merits, is vindicated. Conversely, a case that appears on the surface to be strong, falls apart in court.

We wait to see the evidence to be presented before the court. All those making predictions about the decision going one way or the other have no idea of the evidence and arguments to be presented in court. Therefore any prediction of the outcome of the case can at best be based on guesswork.

The Supreme Court comprises capable, experienced jurists, well versed in Ghanaian jurisprudence. They have a very serious matter before them. They are going to make a decision based on evidence and arguments presented before them. They are not going to be swayed by media or other predictions.

Whatever decision the Supreme Court makes will strengthen our democracy. The prediction of a London based economic magazine is irrelevant.

My one and only concern is that, would the discrepencies identified be enough to overturn the results even to the ideal situation of a re-run of the presidentials?
As it stands now, it has been agreed by all parties involved in the dispute to scale down the "bones of contention " to two areas and the outcome stares subjectively in the faces of supporters of both parties. I will use this platform to urge all Ghanaians to realise that Non of the political parties is from another country so what is the anger for?????

New Wardrobe for the Justices are urgently needed. They do look funny in these outfits.
The justices and Government have to be creative and come up with some nice Academic type Gown with some nice Kente colors and unique design specifically made for the Justices.
I can't imagine how they can wear these old ugly wigs considering the heat they have to endure in Ghana.
