Is there really a need to have an Affirmative Action Law on our books to "protect women"?I do understand some cultural practices that defame, humiliate, physically hurt women. And I bet those infractions are well covered in criminal and civil procedures. So I begin to shudder when "new rights" are advocated for women especially when advocacy only duplicates our efforts to threat everybody equally.
If women are disproportionately represented in our political environment, could it be that women are not forceful or interested enough to partake in the political process.Allocating quotas to women so they can be represented to the pleasure of some political hacks is ridiculous. In order words, our nation do not need an Affirmative Action Law just because such a Law is instituted somewhere else.We simply cannot be copycats. If women want to run for anything in Ghana they ought to be able to do that without being given special treatments.Nobody is frustrating the efforts of women to participate in the political process.Passage of such a Law is duplicitous and unnecessary.Ghana is not Rwanda.
