  That sentence ought to end at knowledge or replace "activities" with "work"
  How do you boost their knowledge on their activities? That is why this type of expression falls under fixed. It shoulld read as " who took them through various topics on politics and governance to boost their knowledge" or better still, " who took them through various topics on politics and governance to boost their knowledge on their work.
