The ideas presented here sound good, just on paper, but NOT IN practice in Ghana. The big question to ask is: "DOES ANYTHING IN GHANA POLITICS GETS DONE WITHOUT FEAR OR FAVOUR? I have my doubts.

The ideas presented here sound good, just on paper, but NOT IN practice in Ghana. The big question to ask is: "DOES ANYTHING IN GHANA POLITICS GETS DONE WITHOUT FEAR OR FAVOUR? I have my doubts.

Almost ALL THINGS get done with great FEAR and FAVOURS. I see the issues raised as NON-STARTERS for following reasons: The Coalition’s four-fold demands for reform include:

i. Turning the Office of Attorney-General into an Independent Prosecutor’s Office separate from the Ministry of Justice so that that Office is removed from the negative influence of partisan politics to deal with all forms of corruption without fear or favour = WHY DUPLICATE WHAT CHRAJ WAS ESTABLISHED TO DO. DOES IT MEAN THAT, WITH FEAR AND/OR FAVOUR CHRAJ COULD AND WOULD NOT PERFORM TO REQUIRE THIS SUGGESTION?

ii. Separating the Legislature (Parliament) from the Executive (Presidency) so that effective checks and balance can operate = NEAT ON PAPER BUT NOT REAL IN GHANA. GREAT IF THIS CAN BE DONE, WITHOUT FEAR AND/OR FAVOUR.

iii. Removing the “hand” of the Executive (Presidency) from the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies and take away the opportunity for partisan patronage from the center, through popular election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) by the people = LONG-SUGGESTED, BUT NOT AND NEVER IMPLEMENTED FOR SIMILAR REASONS ABOVE - JOB FOR THE BOYS; and

iv. Establishing a Ministry of Public Service to continuously seek improvement in the way work is done and take steps to strengthen public institutions in Ghana = WHAT BECAME OF PUBLIC SERVICES COMMISSION (PSC)? YOU WISH TO CREATE ADDITIONAL MDAs WITHOUT THE COMMENSURATE EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS? THIS IS WHY I SAY ALL ARE JOKES.

How disciplined is even the PPP and the convener to make and champion such proposals. I would love to surely see things improve, so I would give all the benefit of the doubt and throw WEIGHT behind the efforts proposed. Best wishes for Ghana.

The PPP has demonstrated it's consistency over the years and has clearly proven that, they provide an alternative to the two main opposition parties and has sought to champion and bring to the fore, some of the very pertinent and pernicious issues, which if solutions are not sought in the immediate to long term, has the propensity to throw this political process which we have decided to adopt as the best system of governance, up in the air. It would just not be sustainable and recent events from 2009 till present demonstrates profoundly, the conundrum, which such a situation presents not just for good and transparent governance, but the very security and stability of the nation and the rule of law, which underpins democratic societies, as the means tested and tried approach to sustainable development and equitable growth and prosperity in far more advanced socio-cultural and political establishments. Ghana is sitting pretty tight on a powder keg of pent up frustration and despondency in the midst of abundance, both materially and intellectually, although there's still a long way to go. Coupled with a burgeoning youthful population, who don't have any avenues and opportunities to realize their goals and ambitions for a much better life, the call by the PPP, is most warranted at this material point in time.
