As the saying goes that a tribe is a country. Different tribes have joined together to form a big country called Ghana. The constitution need to change so that all the tribal groups will have the chance to become president and vice. The Twi, Fante, Guans, Nzema and other Akans are 50% of the population. The Ewes, Krobos, Dangmes, Gas and the Northern tribes also makes 50% of the population of Ghana. We have seen the Akans, an Ewe and a Northerner president and vice president and now I believe that the 2020 the president should come from GaDangme and the vice an Ewe citizen.

In short what I am saying is that the position of the president and vice should be rotated between the Akans and (Ewes, GaDangme and the Northern tribes) the minority tribes. In this situation all the political parties will only shortlisted GaDangmes for the presidency and Ewes for the vice for the 2020 election. This is a fairer system and every tribe would wait patiently for it term. May the good Lord bless this suggestion.

The above statement brings some names quickly to mind...Kwame Okoampa Ahoofe, Adofo Rockson, Kwame Katakyie, Osei Tawiah, Insght to the bone, Kennedy Agyepong, Sir John, Sammy Awuku.....All the above have one thing in common..."Viciousness"

What amazes me sometimes is that I have met some NDC, CPP, PNC and members of other parties who at times praised the government of president Kufuor under NPP for some major achiements despite their disagreements with him on some issues as well.

I have also met PNC, NDP, and members of other parties who also every now and then praises the government of Kwame Nkrumah and Jerry Rawlings for some of their achievements despite their disagreemnts with them on some things as well.

But on the other hand i have never met an NPP member that had anything positive to say about any other party or government unless its related to NPP. No wonder most of them are so intolerant. Its either their way or the high way.

The NPP needs to change its approach to the way it does politics and relate to new members. Sometimes we need to be real and face the true reality on the ground.

Hatred, enviness and jealousy because of centralised government.If each and every one was left to manage themselves all these insults wouldn't happen because every one would be looking forward for your own elected governor in your area for good government so whether you have or have not you must be able to utilise what you have in your area to help your people.The ancient Ashantis were wise and new what was going to happen to their descendants in the 21st century and were trying to prevent that hence they fought for federalism which was the best for ghana because of the competitive in it, this centralised gorvenance has rendered ghanaians lazy and survival of the fittest.

In fact, Professor Akosa was too generous and diplomatic in not highlighting the main aim of the NLM - to inflict terrorist fear into the public consciousness. The NLM was an extremely violent, tribal terrorist organization with many victims.

The generations of Ghanaians born after 1966 should count themselves very lucky not to have experienced this shamefully violent episode in our history.

Tribalism was the oxygen that fueled the deep hatred the NLM had for Nkrumah and his government. Witness the ninety degree turn around that Victor Owusu, Joe Appiah , RR Amponsah and others - strong CPP members - who after they were summoned to Manhyia(where Bafour Osei Akoto was the Asantehene's chief linguist) - resigned from CPP to join NLM/UP.

I thank the Prof Akosa for making this facts known to all the people in Ghana from all quaters of our tribes. It is naturally the truth, and I personally believe that the truth should be known by all so that in this 21 first century we shall not allow any tribalistic sentiments to influence us and overthrow our economy into the pit.

Over here in overseas the white people too like to hide everything relating to slavery. They did that because they felt guilty of their wrong behaviour in the past, hence they prefer to keep it under the table. Over here where I live in overseas they do not teach anything relating to Slavery to the students in their history books.

Naturally they should not hide it but they do. This means wrong social politics of wickedness, hatred, tribalism , slavey etc are evil in the minds of people who are related to it. This is why many of you are also offended by this exposure and are lambasting Prof Akosa, instead of being thankful to him of the realities of the evil politics that took place in the past.

The best thing we have to do is to appreciate this revelation, and rethink of its positive and negative provision in relation to the nation's development in the area of tribalism.

It is a fact that tribalism had done much evil to us all, and therefore this should be a topic that can never be hidden from our ears. We need to hear and react with awareness that those who projected tribalism in those days did us much evil than good, hence today we do not need that primitive mentality of tribalism anymore.

In short the initiator of tribalism in Ghana the NLM did not do well, and I believe in today's politics we have to make sure the spirit of tribalism is killed in all political parties especially in the NPP of today which had shown it among the Akyems and the Ashantes in the NPP. Change this evil minds of tribalism.

If you are not an Ashanti, you cannot lead Ghana type of character. Quality in person(s)is better than quantity. It is written, "many are called but few are chosen". I completely agree with Koiku Niamey that we should aim forward as "neighbors" - said in the Bible and maybe so in the Koran. The Ten commandment is not a multiple choice whereby our Leaders have the luxury to pick and abandon what they want. Opposition Party should be modified in the mind of African politics. After the public vote and choose one party over the other, all parties should work together to solve the people(s) problems until the next four-year election period. I guess the Professor is attempting to enlighten Ghanaians not to be surprised of events in the country. The habit is of past and imbedded in the bones of the tribes and I do not see that as tribalism. I am glad they are not closer to the coast/sea for them to easily control commerce - Ghana would be in a bad shape. The control of our newly found oil is what they aim at but they cannot get there because of pr-supposed interior motives. They will fight for a leadership position until no leader is found.

For your information, the guan are not Akan. Otherwise president Mahama who is a Gonja ( a Guan people ) could be counted as Akan !!!

The Akan are not are tribe. They are a collection of ethnic groups related by language and culture. In Ghanaian politics the term " akan" often excludes the Fante who are possibly the largest Akan group in fact.
Northerners are also not an ethnic group. The ethnic and cultural diversity in the three northern regions- which most southern Ghanaians do not understand - is such that it is all too convenient to lazily label all of them as " northerners ".

In reality Ghana has no tribe of majority that can win any political power in Ghana when they choose to go SOLO. Many Ghanaians are not aware of the statistics of our tribes in our nation thus the foolish and selfish polticians with tribal goals swerve the majority less intelligent population and use their votes to their advantage.

You are right with the idea you have about the use of the word Akan. Akan is a word use to describe the tribes that have similarities in their languages. Thus naturally AKAN is not a tribe, which ought to be accepted in our national affairs.

The tribes are; the Ahanta, Akyem, Akwapim, Akwamu, Ashanti, Bono, Fante, Kwahu, Nzema and Sefwi. These 10 tribes which are not a single tribe forms 52 percent. The whole of the North, and Upper regions form tribes form 25 percent while the Ewes composed of 6 tribes form 14 percent while the GaDamgbe forms 9 percent.

To support your points of argument it is a fact that there is no majority tribe or minority tribe in Ghana.
This, the politicians know very well and that is why the NPP are using the AKAN as a smart strategy to swerve people to their side tribally.

The unity of our dear country must not be compromised for any political gain. Any politician who is sensible and love GHANA must stop pointing at where TRIBAL POLITICS might have come from, because that will not take us anywhere. Another person will come and point at another direction. The fact is that today we all know it is not a good thing to do and must be discouraged, rather than use it to our selfish advantage. The unity of our dear nation is more important than the survival of any political grouping. Ghana has been there long before any of these parties (which have a lot of selfish and insincere individuals) were formed. Ghana will be there when they are long gone. Let us sincerely pledge our loyalty to GHANA rather than a political party. How sincere are most of the members of these parties when it comes to stewardship with things of the nation? But if you listen to our politicians,it sounds as if people are on others throat because of their tribe.
For instance,there are more Akans living in Accra than the Gas,the same way in Kumasi,we have Anloga,Fanti Town,and there are more Northerners living in Kumasi than any other town or city in Ghana,and more Akans in Tamale than one can imgine.

Others formed Northern Peoples Party, Togoland Congress and Anlo Youth Organization and those were not tribal BUT NLM was. If you have nothing to say, please don't say it here, Prof Akosa. The fact is Kwame Nkrumah was an inexperienced and young over ambitious person who took a clue from Marcus Garvey and learnt his antics to lead a country. The moment he got some one to pay for his passage back to the Gold Coast because he couldn't afford his own passage, he hatched a plan to outwit his benefactors. The fact is Ghana is in a mess today precisely because of Nkrumah contrary to what his daughter and you would want us to believe.

After all the political turmoil in the
country, the CPP is the only party that got to keep her original name. It is also the most divided party. It appears without Nkrumah's antics, the CPP cannot stand on her own. If the CPP cannot unite, how can it unite the country?

He sounds like a gentleman who represented CPP in Parliament a while back.He had no Legislative experience and had done nothing up to that point. He got up one day in a session and declared, "I have never said anything since being in Parliament, so I got up to say something." and then sat down. Prof. Akosah sounds exactly as that gentleman from his Party., the CPP. Shakespeare says, "It's a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing." That is what he represents.

So what makes the NLM the bedrock of tribal politics? I don't get it. Nkrumah failed to fulfil his promises to the cocoa farmers, so what is so wrong for the farmers to agitate for what is due them? And who is their right mind will fault the Asantes for wanting to agitate to maintain their cultural heritage? I do not see any tribalism in this. Seriously Akosa is a senseless professor.
