This is the most sensible way forward. Both Akufo Addo and Alan Kyerematen have little audience in the North and will be beaten hands down by Mahama. The only possible challenger to Mahama in the North is Bawumia. His prospects of winning in the north will be improved if he was the flag bearer. Both Alan and Akuffo Addo appeal to the Ashantis and the Achim areas and this support will not be affected by making Bawunia the flag bearer. Part first please.

Mind you the total population of the 3 Northern regions (aprox 4.2million) is still less than just Ashanti region alone (4.8 million). If NPP wants to really win the next election they need to focus on picking their VP candidate from either GREATER ACCRA, CENTRAL OR BRONG AHAFO. they can either go with Alan or Nana Addo as the flagbearer but Bawumia must be dropped immediately, he is more so for 2024. just not now. he needs to be groomed for 2024.

Assuming Mole-Dagomba alone is the second most populated tribe of 18% apart from Akan which is 40% of Ghana total population. They have many tribes like Frafra, Dagati, wala and others which also share percentage that makes the 100% of national population

According to the latest scientific poll conducted by Google in conjunction with Microsoft and backed by Korean electronic giant Samsung, as published in the New York Times of 2nd June 2014, the outcome of the 2016 election is predicted as follows.

Greater Accra - NDC-75% NPP-25%
Central Region - NDC-85% NPP-15%
Eastern Region - NDC-75% NPP-25%

I did suggest long ago before Alan declared his intentions to chase the Presidency that Ghana's only hope for a recovery in her Economy and calmer responsible leadership rest with choosing either the set of Drs. Bawumia and Frimpong Boateng, or that of Bawumia and Nduom or Alan and Bawumia.

If the current crisis in NPP between the camps of Nana and Alan is unresolvable, then it naturally makes most sense that both leave the scene and allow Dr. Bawumia and Frimpong Boateng take the wheels.

Despite Akufo-Addo camp's earlier bashing of Dr. Frimpong Boateng, he is still the man whose integrity could complement Dr. Bawumia's expertise in pulling the Economy out of the morass it is in now, without much of any political baggage.

Nana ought to retire and Alan could be our Foreign Minister or Ambassador-at-large.
Alan is still too young and skillful to be totally overlooked. The Nation needs his general unifying charisma, International experience and vivacious spirit to persuade our foreign investors to flock down to help.
It would not be a lowering of prestige or standards for Alan. Akufo-Addo is too divisive a leader to be trusted.
