This is a classic case of causing financial loss to the state. Instead of letting the Brazilian tax authorities to deduct the 17% from the payments to the players and officials, Nyantakyi arranged that the taxes be borne by the state of Ghana. Thus the cost per each beneficiary is what they received plus the tax to be deducted from what FIFA will be paying Ghana.

Clearly, the tax is a payment which would have been avoided if Nyantakyi had not made that nasty decision. Instead this arrogant man is bragging all over the place. Well, in today's Ghana anyone can get away with murder. During JJ's time, who born dog?

Can someone brief on what Elvis and Yamin had done to bring both the party and government into disrepute? Who was responsible for the fiasco at Brazil? Was it the GFA or the Ministry of Sports? Not until we have a detailed and official report, no one has the moral right to run their mouth foul. The reports making the rounds elsewhere in the world is: 'the buck stops with the managers of the national teams'. So far a number of decent ones with a sense of decency had resigned. I am yet to read of a minister of sports resigning or being sacked in any of the coutries that failed to proceed from the group stages. What therefore was Elvis' crime? Someone should educate me. I am a card-bearing dues paying NDC member too.

Who is/are the owner(s) of the new office space and how much does it cost to put up a building in Ghana? There are several of such cases making rounds in Ghana. So list some of the reforms you are talking about. Millions of dollars on sanitary pads at a time when the whole country is engulfed in darkness? The overburdened Ghanaian taxpayer will want to know those reforms and development. Just list them.

We are all aware of the period of PNDC when most of these so called old guards were foisted on Ghanaians as PNDC secretaries in positions where they lacked both knowledge and experience. Fresh from Universities and other tertiary institutions and mostly student leaders with one or two succesful "alutas" to their credit , they were appointed by JJ, and who dare you to criticise? Some of them through long service in the PNDC 11 years, and another 8 years of NDC 1, they matured somehow to become who they are today. Some took the advantage to add some few degrees and other qualifications to their CVs. Fine enough. But why deny others the same opportunity you had? President Mahama is simply drawing a leaf from the textbooks of Rawlings and Atta Mills. The simple truth is that these young ones are more loyal, and loyalty in Politics counts more than experience and qualification. Ask Kwame Nkrumah and Rawlings. How old were Totobi Kwakye and the Ahwoi brothers when they were made PNDC secretaries? Now they are old guards. They should allow the youth also to grow. Let them make their own mistakes and get wiser. "Let them sing their own song".

You answer this question, does it make sense to to buy school bags, straight edges, maths sets, sanitary towels etc, and do capacity building and monitoring when you cannot buy chalk? When Teachers are not being paid? When the NPP proposed free education, the NDC said it was better to offer quality education. Is this the quality education? Sanitary pads and school bags for 10,000 students and then and then some hundreds of thousands if not millions sit in classrooms with no teachers, no chalk and no books.

There was a decent chance that Ghana would have boycotted their final group stage match against Portugal had they failed to receive their $100,000 World Cup bonuses. The threat was so serious that the country’s president stepped in and sent a plane to Brazil to have the cash delivered to the players in person.

The players got their money and Ghana did play their final World Cup match, a 2-1 loss to Portugal. Now, their story could be appearing on a movie screen near you sometime in the future.

According to The Wrap, director Darryl Wharton-Rigby has written a treatment called “Wall Pass,” a soccer-themed thriller about the Ghana bonus saga with a little touch of Hollywood added to it.

From The Wrap:

Wharton-Rigby's script will follow a courier who's tasked with bringing $3 million to an African soccer team, which refuses to play until its paid — in cash. Things go awry when the courier is ambushed on the way to make the drop, leaving him less than 12 hours to recover the stolen money.

Hopefully the script includes the fall-out from the bonus row which saw Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and his deputy Joseph Yamin fired, not to mention Kevin Prince-Boateng and Sulley Muntari getting sent home before the Portugal match for separate incidents within the team’s camp. You know, just to add even more drama to the movie.

Until our current President and future ones to come learn how to punish their appointees for non performance and wrong doing like what the above ministers did in organizing Ghana's 2014 World Cup paticipation,the country will continue its downward trend.I think the best thing the president should have done was to let the two resign and then keep them in the Party for at least one year and then bring them back into his administration just before the next general elections if he feels they are integral part of his campaign machinery. This is how the Japanese deal with issues like this.In so doing, you don't offend the Ghanaian masses who voted for you, especially, the floating voters.
