Have we not recently witnessed a case where the President made comments on the social media and the US embassy reacted with a 'pay cut' comment which most Ghanaians condemned becuse it was none of their business. But the fact of the matter is if you make comments which are about national policy on social media then anyone who reads has the right to comment be him or her from US embassy or wherever.

If you aren't a subscriber to news from the communicators of the President's message how can you have his message in your inbox. The man is not saying social media is bad but rather advising the president to desist from over using it as his primary point to contact to the citizenry because he is the first gentleman of Ghana. And governance is a serious business you can't just join any social network and spread your foolishness like what our president is doing. You open yourself for a lot of dangers Ghana is not mature for that now. I see this as a good advice to our president rather than what you think. I mean we still have the majority of our population as illiterates so what is the use of a social media. Educate them first.

Social media communication is the vogue of the day and if the president decides to reach out via that, very perfect in my view and he is definitely moving with the pace of time and technology. What we must rather learn is to be civil in submitting our opinion and comments - avoid insults and insinuations as Mr. Osei Adjei seeks to suggest. By the way, they are in opposition and therefore display that negative and abusive attack and disposition towards the president. So educate yourselves to be civil and go with social media to deepen democracy.

Since our Constitution does not provide ample provisions for Freedom of Information and we are supposed to enjoy transparent Governance, access to the Presidency via Social Media is appropriate to compensate, somehow, got that shortcoming.
Meanwhile, with or without the President's direct Social Media Accounts, he can still be easily insulted as much as folks want to via Forums like this one, Ghanaweb.com and Modernghana.com, etc.
If the President does not want to be insulted, he better resign because no matter how well he does, his enemies and disgruntled Citizens would still be targeting him for such insults.
I am not sure where this Mr. Adjei traveled around beyond our borders when he was a Foreign Minister. But if he had paid attention he might have discovered that President Obama, for example, has long been the target of some of the most dehumanizing, disrespectful invectives from his political opponents, especially from the Republican Party in the USA. Even Congress-folks who do not like him rain unspeakable insults on him in the main Media like the TV which even gets instantly broadcast to the general audience, and also in the Social Media. President Obama is aware of that but he does not let that overshadow his best judgment.
No President can live in a bubble these days. Not even Russia's Putin or China's Xi Jinping. And that is one reason why the President's criticism has soared relatively higher than his predecessors whose eras did not have as widespread access to Social Media in Ghana.
However, the level of decorum used by the Citizens of a Nation reflects more on the character and behavior of the Public in that Country at any particular time. And it has nothing to do with any direct Social Media access to the President.
As it is now, this Forum is replete with numerous Accounts with pseudonyms intended to veil the owners' real identity. Such is an emboldening feature for misbehavior online. The anonymity that the Social Media offers is the cover under which devious but coward folks hide to spew their dirt on others. So, the President could be attacked everywhere online, either he owns an account or not.
Nevertheless, since most folks fear that their identity would be exposed on the mainstream Media if they criticized the President rightly or wrongly, on those channels, the President may be benefitting from genuine but scathing criticism from others who have constructive opinions to give but fear retribution from those sympathetic to the President.
Mr. Akwasi Osei Adjei cannot live in the 20th Century. He must face the realities of today. Building a crucible around the President allows trouble to ferment easily around him. The more open Presidency offers better information flow that the President can use to his advantage.
There isn't much of a President's plan that when exposed through Social Media endangers National Security. This is an excuse for keeping the old situation of isolating the President and propping him up to be some Monarch before whom folks have to bow and never directly address.
I hope this man, Akwasi Osei Adjei, does not become an Advisor to any new President after Mahama. Ghana would be worse off.
We need more openness and access to the Presidency and the Parliament, not less. No wonder we never had the FOIB passed in our Parliament even under Kufuor's NPP Administration where deeper Democracy was promised us.
If our Governments have nothing to hide, they should not fear opening up to the Public. Period!

When JA Kufour was in power, we didn't have twitter, and facebook was in development or didn't existed, besides, JA Kufour like any old man can update his status on facebook. President Obama and other leaders are active on social media, since beginning of 2000 both Republicans and Democratic have been active on social media. The question is, I don't think it's John Mahama behind most of the social media posting information. Nana Addo was sitting in London but bombarding the media with his missions.
