“Let me tell you, the best gauge of a person’s conduct in the future is his conduct in the past. That is why it is important to review the backgrounds of the various candidates and to find out how loyal they have been to the party and that will tell you how loyal they will continue to be with the party moving forward.

“We are facing a very dangerous opposition where our opponents have more control of resources than we do. It is possible for our opponents to even sponsor candidates into our ranks to create the disunity they like so much, so let us watch out. Review the backgrounds of the various candidates and be able to cast a wise vote.

“There is a whole world of difference between operating from party office and operating from Peace FM. So if you are elected to do your work come to the office and do your work and you’ll have time to respond to radio interviews… and if you go and elect leaders who will go to radio stations and when you want to organise meetings they are not available then I’m sorry you can’t win elections. So don’t let us judge people by media appearances”

As a matter of fact, many in Ghana think and know that Addo will meet the flag bearership of the party because of Alan's past and present mistakes. There are some in the party who prefer Bawumia to Alan and Nimoh

But everybody also knows that Alan will be the runner-up, but not Addai Nimo. So why tell such a clear lie two days before the polls?
Lies do not fool anybody these days! Please, just stick to the truth as you have done all along until now. You see, until recently, after you lost the party secretary position six months ago, you have shown that you are a good party-man by the way you have answered questions put to you concerning your successors. So why do you decide to change that mature stance on the eve of the primaries? Please, do not be swayed by what the media want to hear you say so that they can crucify you. Just stick to your original approach of never directly criticising your successors. Everybody's sins live after them. Let the public judge Afoko and Agyepong by what they do. Just do not join their accusers, because you know your own people: "Delegates cannot be trusted!"

He stands very tall in the book of flag-bearer winners. This means, simply, that even when Nana is 90years, he will still win the flag bearer race in the NPP. He is no threat at all to NDC because of this entrenched fact.

In my objective assessments both Alan and Nana have seriously, not got the vital qualities to win the votes of Ghanaians for the position for President of Ghana. For that matter, Addai-Nimoh is the best candidate to vote for as the flagbearer of NPP. This would prevent splits, conflicts and serious divisions in NPP which, could politically, set us backwards many years. In fact, fast in the reverse gear. Having said that though, Mr Addai-Nimoh could be a 'dark horse' and when tactical voting comes into play, he will win the NPP flagbeareship hands down.

Oct 18 to select a leader for our dear party, lets
remember the importance of change as spelt out by
our dear two times flagbearer Nana Addo Danquah in
Sunyani congress in 1998.
Akufo-Addo capitalized
on Kufuor’s defeat and equally
demanded a change of flag-bearership.
To him, it was morally wrong for the
NPP delegates to retain Kufuor because,
Prof. Adu Boahen was never given a
second chance. Below are some of the
statements Nana Addo made at the NPP
Congress at Sunyani in 1998 that have
been captured in the electronic and
print media:
• “I am aware that there are some of
you who are nervous about the
prospects of change in our leadership.
We changed leader in 1996 and again
this year, some of us are canvassing for
another change for 2000. I have been
through these matters with you at your
homes. Change in 1996 improved our
performance – the vote of our
candidate more than doubled from 1.2
million in 1992 to 2.8 million in 1996;
our percentage of vote went from 30%
in 1992 to 40% in 1996; the number of
constituencies in which we had
majorities increased from 43 in 1992 to
62 in 1996. So on all fronts, we
improved our performance. It is not
true then that change hurts. On the
contrary it improves our standing.”
Nana Addo continues;
• “I call on members of the party to
embrace change in leadership of the
party. Such changes are far from
harming the fortunes of the party”.
• “Change improves the chances of
political parties as a new face eventually
means new ideas, new methods and
new strategies”.
He further asserts;
• “Any candidate elected as the NPP’s
flag-bearer has already secured 30% of
the total valid votes. Failure to garner
the remaining 20% plus 1 means the
candidate has failed, and therefore
must be changed.”
On his view on floating voters, Nana
Addo said;
• “The NPP must elect a leader who has
appeal outside the party and could
reach out to the larger electorate and
that if it fails to do this, power could
once again elude it” – DAILY GRAPHIC,
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8,1998. Page 11.
• “Whereas political parties have been
known to have succeeded in winning
power through changes of their leaders,
there has been no instance in the
history of democratic politics where a
leader failed to win power at the first
attempt, succeeds when presented the the second.
This time round, its not even the second. We cant
continue to be in opposition.WE NEED A CHANGE
AND THE TIME IS NOW!!!
