The appointment of the Judiciary is similar to that of the EC chairperson. The constitution does not give the president authority over the selection of this class of people in the system because; they are expected to be independent and impartial in discharge of their duties. If the president were to have much say in their appointment that would compromise that independence and impartiality required of them implicitly or explicitly. They are not in the category of his ministers where he has complete hire and fire powers under the constitution and are not expected to be independent of the his decisions. Also, they go when the president goes but the judiciary and the EC chairperson will remain after the president's term of office expires.

The issue is not the president being subservient to the judiciary or the council of state; the measures put in place are critical checks and balances in the constitution to prevent the executive from dominating every branch of government, which if allowed to happen by given the president substantive powers to appoint and fire members of the other branches, the situation could easily metamorphose into autocracy now or in the future. Who will impeach or judge the president if he over steps his constitutional powers or commits crimes? It is the judiciary. Who will act as a referee between him and others during elections? It is the EC. The excerpt bellow will explain further:

"The President’s power to appoint the Chairman and Members of the EC is merely a ministerial one. The substantive power of appointment is assigned to the Council of State. The President shall act on the advice of the Council of State means the President is barred from the nomination, vetting and selection process. Those who framed the Constitution were keenly aware of the impropriety inherent in allowing the President, a political player, to play a critical role in selecting the political referee. Nevertheless, out of deference for the office of the President, the framers allowed him, as the Chief Executive Officer, the honour of “appointing” the candidate selected by the Council of State. In this case, all the President is required to do is to issue the appointment letter under the Presidential seal but no more."

Recently, the Minister for Health, Segbefia, told the people of the Volta Region that they should use him whiles he is in government. Just last week a stupid NDC executive shamelessly said nothing good can come out from a certain region. If this nonsense had come from anybody from the opposition you will find ministers with their fangs like a wolf ready to catch a prey organizing demonstrations. What a useless and divisive government?

THE USELESS NDC PARTY IS SO DIVISIVE that today, they have turned one tribe against another, one religion against another, but thank God they failed to bring the same to football even though Atta tried.

And they believe this propaganda? But NDC under John Mahama has started sending them back to the North already. It started with the demolitions at Sodom and Gomorrah and asking them together with Oko Vanderpuye the AMA Boss, that they should go back to the North.
Under NPP, Kufuor's gov't went to AdjinKotoku which is in Accra and the South, before thinking of any demolition. NDC is sending them back already just saying.

I know someone here in London who resigned from VALCO after 19 years of working there, as the person could bear the stress of Tarzan's implementation of weeding out Ewes and undesirables like Dokyi, an Asante, who many thought was an Ewe. The person personally delivered the letter to Mr Dokyi. Even though an Ewe of Ga-Adangme origin, the person's name hid the person's identity. Those not sacked were demoted! The careers of many were ruined.

I told the person that I was happy when Kufuor was telling Ewes in senior positions to proceed on leave for forensic audit to be done because it was cos of them that we were being insulted daily by "these Akans" but never raise a voice to defend Ewes and say that they got their posts on merit. Only 50, the person is nursing high blood pressure, and was furious I said that, considering the trauma she is still suffering. I told her I personally said same to the late Philip Fiadzomor, one of the victims, and a mate from Mawuli School. You see, we have stories to tell.

Every single Ghanaian of all ethnic background absolutely know that NDC patry is totally incompetent to run this country. However, there's a sense of apprehension on the other ethnic groups to change course because of fear of marginalization by the NPP government if the come to power. This is causing these ethnic groups to make political decisions inimical to their own interests. Gullible politicians are making a career out of this unfortunate fears. They are caught between a rock and a hard place. It's up to the NPP folks to extend a great deal of assurances to them, allay their fears and cause them to see the future as a united country

When the Ashantis and Akyems were defeated by CPP in 1951, 1954 and 1956 elections, they brought Dr Dombo’s Northern People’s Party to win northerners vote and also used Dr Busia of Brong to as cover. On November 20, 1956, Dr. Busia’s NLM and the Northern People’s Party sent a secessionist resolution to the British Colonial office in London for separate independence for the Asante province and the Northern Territories. This is confirmed by Busia ethnic politics and/or politics of demagoguery, his national disintegration schemes, his arrogant repeated refusal to accept and recognize Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s CPP victories, and his violent campaign to overthrow the democratically elected government of Nkrumah. Additionally, Busia’s despotic rule is evident by his ethnocentric polices such as his summary dismissal of selected top public administrators mostly Ewes. As Chairman of National Civic Education in NLC, Busia made sure a decree was passed to ban CPP members to partake in 1969 election.

One doesn’t need to be slapped before knowing NPP and their predecessor were tribal party. Prior to 1979 election, Victor Owusu, the flagbearer of PFP told the Ewes that they were inward-looking and Prof. Adu-Boahen, the campaign slogan in 1992 was that “Ye gye ye man” as if the Ghana was under the rule of an alien. And indeed J.A. Kufour surrounded himself with Akyem/Ashanti elites. Although they try to tell Ghanaians that NPP is a party that cuts across tribal lines but the party bigwigs forget themselves and will come out with the true colours. Indeed, Nana Akufo-Addo, himself described himself and the rest of the NPP as “Yen Akanfo” which literally means “We the Akans” NPP firebrand MP, Kennedy Agyapong has called for the extermination of Ewes in Ashanti Region. The truth is NPP is a tribal party as Yaw Osafo-Marfo came out to say “even though close to 90% of Ghana’s resources are concentrated in Akan-dominated areas, it is non Akans who come from areas without resources that are at the helm of governance”.

Nana Akufo-Addo is only doing diplomacy and throwing dust on people’s eyes just to come to power. One of his predecessors, Dr Busia said “Diplomacy means the art of nearly deceiving all your friends, but not quite deceiving all your enemies”. Nana, don’t lie to Ghanaians.

Many of Nana's supporters would say it is unfair to be bringing up that incidence of misguided utterance, again and again. Well, the reason some of us do so is that Nana has not fully apologized to the Nation for that. His one-time appearance in an interview that even pried a passing apology from him on that is not enough. The interviewer asked if Nana regretted that utterance because it might have affected his chances in the previous Elections. So, if it were not for winning the Elections, would he have had any regrets for offending many Ghanaians with that remark? That is the question that still lingers.

Moreover, Akufo-Addo did not take to the Public Media to denounce what some his minions like Kennedy Agyapong and Osafo Marfo, were blurting out blatant bigotry, while many in the Nation expected to hear from him, at least, for suggesting to his supporters, and all Ghanaians, for that matter, to stop the bigotry.

His passivity in such moments are frightening, and says more to his intentions than even the words he might say later to remedy the damage his silence caused.

I wish he would begin to reach out more, and not only in an occasion like this, to establish his credibility in rejecting bigotry.

To say that no ethnic group was marginalised under the Kufuor administration is total lie. Like Busia before him when he became Prime Minister in 1969, one of Kufuor's first acts as President was to indiscriminately dismiss a large number of civil and public servants,, the majority of whom were Ewes.

Secondly, the Kofi Annan Peace Centre was slated to be opened in the Volta Regional capital of Ho, but Kufuor objected to that and had it opened in Accra instead.

Thirdly, Ewes were discriminated against in appointments to senior civil servant positions. Ewes who applied to such positions were never invited for interviews, let alone interviewed and employed. A senior Akan civil servant who was incensed by his colleagues' attitude and action made a report to the authorities about this uncivilised behaviour of his colleagues, which report he copied to former President Rawlings' office.

In the meantime, Mr. Kufuor packed his administration with mostly Asantes, to the extent that one journalist asked him why most of his appointments were mostly his own people. In response, he indicated that it was the Asantes who had overwhelmingly voted him to power and therefore he had to give them positions. All these were reported by Ghanaweb.com

Nana Akufo Addo can't forget all this. Any statement to the contrary, as he has done here, shows the kind of liar he is. That's one reason why I don't trust him, not to mention the numerous corrupt activities he engaged in during his tenure as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice during the Kufuor administration. Ghanaians would be committing suicide if they elect such a man as President.
