No Parliamentary aspirant was disqualified in the Upper West Region in the recent National Democratic Congress (NDC) vetting despite a few petitions brought against some candidates.
The vetting committee led by Alhaji Hudu Yahaya found the few petitions brought against some candidates to be of no substance and therefore qualified all 35 candidates to contest the election that is scheduled to take place in November this year.
Initially, 36 candidates filed their nominations to contest the primaries across all 11 constituencies in the region, but just before the vetting, Mr. Michael Kombor withdrew from the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa Constituency race honorably, leaving 35 candidates to pass through the vetting.
Mr. Issahaq Adams Mengu, Upper West Regional Organiser of the NDC told the Ghana News Agency that all the candidates were qualified based on merit and commitment to the party.
He advised all candidates to make their campaigns free and fair, devoid of insults that could bring about divisions within the party, warning that any such divisions had the potential of weakening the party in the 2016 general elections.
The NDC Regional Organiser said the party would be monitoring all the candidates and their campaign activities, and that, if any candidate was found engaging in campaigns that does not conform to the rules or would affect the peace of the party, such a candidate would be brought to book.
“Party discipline is key for success and you cannot go into any election with part of your wall broken and expect to win”, he said.
“After the primaries, we all need to embrace the winners and give them total support to win the seat for the party”, he added.
