Former President John Agyekum Kufuor performed terribly during his second term in office, says Ace Ankomah, a former Senior Law Lecturer at the Ghana Law School.

According to him, the ex-President’s performance in his first term was commendable, doing so well to gain the admiration of many of Ghanaians, but he failed to deliver during his last four years.

A section of the Ghanaians have described ex-President Kufuor as the best President Ghana has had under the fourth republic.

He is hailed for introducing several social intervention programmes including Free maternal healthcare, National Health Insurance Scheme and the School Feeding Programme among others.

But speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM on Thursday, Ace Ankomah stated that President Kufuor, late into his exit from power, took certain decisions which were very questionable, taking a lot from his initial good performance.

“I give him the thumbs up for the first four years, but the last term was terrible. For instance, look at what he did during the election time in 2008. He shocked many when he caused all the arrested drivers who had been sentenced by the Motor Court to be released just because of votes. That was certainly not a right thing to do even though it could have been politically right.

He condemned such actions by Ghanaian politicians saying “they always look at the next election and nothing else. This is probably because they have nothing else to do when they exit power.”
