Ghana is paying six times its total oil revenue as interest on the country’s total public debt stock; that’s the computation done by former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“We’ll reach GHC99billion by the end of this year,” the Running Mate to the Flagbearer of the biggest opposition Party said in a post-budget presentation interview with Richard Sky of Citi FM.
“The interest on this debt alone is going to be six times Ghana’s oil revenue,” Dr Bawumia said.
“When we found oil, we were happy that we found oil, but the borrowing of this Government has compromised the whole oil discovery; you need six times our oil revenue just to pay interest on the debt, not even capital, so, it is a really sad development,” he complained.

Small minds will think it's Afoko. But deep thinkers will link it to the NDC. History tells us that anytime a strong opposition's office is raided, it's the work of a jittery party in power. It happened in the US under President Nixon. The acid path in the U/E Region eventually paved the way for the NDC to win the bye-election. Deep thinkers know it was the work of the NDC. I said at the time it happened that the NPP shouldn't fall for the NDC's bait. Afoko should have voluntarily stepped aside not because he was behind the incident, but simply because it was the best thing to help calm "shallow" thinkers in the NPP. On the other hand, Nana should have calmed waters by embracing Afoko whilst pointing fingers at the NDC. Common sense should guide the NPP supporters to realize that at this point in time, the NDC can only win in 2016 if they are able to bring disunity in the NPP. To neutralize the evil machinations of the NDC, the NPP must do everything possible to stay together or to "seemingly" stay together to shame the NDC. This calls for tolerance, painful sacrifices, insults without retaliation etc. If the NDC could kill President Atta Mills simply to hang onto power, they can do everything possible to destroy the NPP if deeper thinkers in the party allow themselves to be toyed with.
