In the full glare of the President, Vice President, former President Jerry Rawlings, and thousands of leaders and supporters of the NDC, a defiant Greenstreet said: “…Currently nobody, I mean nobody is feeling your better Ghana.”

“Continuous ‘dumsor dumsor,’ corruption from top to bottom, left right inside out, and all the challenges you are facing [are] suffocating the Ghanaian people.”

He added: “We would have thought that perhaps you may have used an occasion like this to discuss policies, programmes and solutions to all the difficulties we are facing as a nation, but no, you chose today to share your Christmas gifts with each other.”

“Ghanaians are not happy at all. This ‘bronya’ is dry. Too too dry,” he told the President, adding: “The most painful thing of all is that you don’t care.”

Ideally, no Chief ought to meddle in secular Politics. But the Chief's declaration of support to the President is not a precedent.

A few months or so ago, there were reports that some Chiefs in the Western Region and later on in the Eastern Region had declared their support to Akufo-Addo for the next Elections. Neither the NPP nor the Electoral Commission cautioned the Chiefs for that behavior.

It has long been the custom in Ghana that Traditional Chiefs tend to migrate towards the incumbent Administration with the main purpose of attracting infrastructure to their areas. Some of the Chiefs, in fact, do so just for earning special personal favors from the President.

Yet, our Political Scientists and leaders in all the Parties never care to raise a caution about that. So, why would the Sunyani Chief be targeted for any criticism for what he said?

Haven't we all seen how many have already insulted the Otumfuor Asantehene for even warmly welcoming President Mahama to his area? The implication of those insults were not that Chiefs ought to stay neutral in our Politics but that most NPP members consider the Asantehene as a bona fide Chief Patron of the NPP and felt betrayed by the Asantehene for showing any amiability towards the President.

I, for one, did not see anything wrong with the Asantehene's magnanimity. A King that important must be a model for the Traditional Chiefs all across the Nation by playing fair and neutral to the Presidency.

Therefore, Asantehene, who has never declared his favoritism for any particular Presidential candidate, was only doing what a King of his stature ought to do.

So, if we want to ensure that our Chiefs stay out of the game of preferential treatment for Political candidates, then we need to engage them at all times to remind them of what our Constitution demands of them in such circumstances.

So, unless those elements criticizing the Sunyanihene are willing to extend their disgust for any Chief to support a Political candidate in the whole Country, they should leave the Sunyanihene alone.

Having said all the above, however, I strongly admonish the Sunyani Traditional Authorities to allow the NPP hold its event in the City as scheduled, or the City could incur serious legal ramifications.

Sunyani does not belong to the Chiefs necessarily, and the members of the NPP in the City, however few, deserve to be in communion with their fellow members across the Nation at their home turf.

I hope calm would prevail for our Democracy to continue to grow and expand and the relics of the dirty violent Politics of old be dropped along the way fast.

These chiefs don't know that we are no more in the stone age and they are irrelevant. They have no constitutional power to do nothing in Ghana. May be they don't know. He was trying to misinform the reading public about the origins of Sunyani and the powers of the Omanhene and as somebody who makes a living in the town, he should have known better. After all Sunyani has been so good to this guy because some of us know him from his school days. Rending apology would not have taken anything from him but he thought he can insult not only the Omanhene but the people of Sunyani and then come back to organize a program on the very land of the person he has insulted. Can he go to his native Jiniji and say the same words to the Chief there? They will learn from this and know how to talk as politicians.

How old is the Sunyani Chief? .I have a strong belief that he should be above eighteen years. If my estimation is correct and he is in the adulthood brackets, then he has only grown bigger and lucks maturity.

How can a whole Chief of his caliber shamelessly open his mouth to make such a statement irresponsibly and expect everyone to clap for him. He must be a joker of the highest order.If he is a stooge to Mahama and his NDC or henchmen, it would be very unfortunate for him to think that everyone is like him.

I highly recommend the NPP for their actions, indeed how they ignored him when they were called to render an apology. That was great.

A word to the Sunyani Chief. If there is any record of all the past chiefs who ruled Sunyani before him, he should question himself where all of them have gone to, and take a lesson from that.

I am surprised that the chiefs of Sunyani are following the paramount chief. The paramount chief's statement was purely political and wrong. Paramount chiefs are supposed to rise above partisan politics.
