I don't know why this law was enacted, there are countries who welcomes their citizens who have gone to learn and are willing to share what they have learned to develop their countries. There are presidents from various countries who holds dual citizenship. The only thing Ghana wants from us in the diaspora is Western Union and Money Gram. What we achieve here doesn't matter. Shegantaka. No wonder why we can't keep our cities and towns clean. Good luck with development if you keep on excluding a segment of your citizens. Did the guy renounce his Ghanaian citizenship??? Can anyone prove that? Full of crap, and backward thinking.

The irony is that the politicians are running scared of Ghanaians in diaspora to lead the Nation building. The politicians are like pigs who do not know nothing but mud and filt. They are afraid we Ghanaians in diaspora are against their rot corruption and looting National coffers. So the foolish law is a great wall to shield Ghanaians in diaspora away from any national development decisions. But it's alright to recruit our children who may not even speak any Ghanaian dialet nor ever visited Ghana to play our National team. Foolish law.

What if he renounces the US citizenship before the 2016 elections?. There is also a distinction between the American Green Paper holder and American Citizen. Is the man a GREEN PAPER HOLDER OR AMERICAN CITIZEN? The two are not the same! A green Paper Holder is NOT a citizen as stated in the constitution. He might in the long run not be a dual nationality holder as prescribed in the 1992 Constitution.. The American Green Paper is equivalent to the UK Indefinite Leave to remain. Holders of Indefinite Leave to remain in the UK are not British Citizens. They only have the right to live and work in the UK indefinitely so long as certain conditions are satisfied.

I'm sure anyone who follows technology know how dominant Indians are in the technology market. They're doing great things to help turn their country around. Prime minister Narendra Modi was in Silicon Valley not long ago trying to convince Indians in the diaspora to bring their expertise home to help develop and drive the Indian economy. Ghanaians from the diaspora shouldn't be relegated to the private sector only. There are lot of competent managers who knows how to turns business around. But are unable to contribute to the national development due to this draconian laws. That provision in the constitution needs to be revisited.

According to US law, one can't apply for American citizenship and keep the citizen of birth. One must renounce for example the Ghanaian citizen to gain the US citizen, and the same applies to Germany. Since 1/01/2000, the German law allows a child born to foreign parents, but with either both or one of the parent with German citizen before the child was born to keep dual citizen till the age of 18, and must give up one. The law on citizenship in the USA has not changed.

If Ghana is already developed, and can stand on its own feet, and don't go around and beg for money, and know how best to utilize its abandon resources to benefit its own people, then they can question the citizenship of someone who was born in Ghana and happened to have a citizenship of a country that he / she adopted. You will surprise to see where some of the Ghanaians here in U.S. Have reached in leadership positions. Anyway, that law need to be changed so that we can all help to develop Ghana. As it stands right now? Many people here in US don't trust the current leaderships, and that is why they tend to come over and do things on their own vs letting someone else do it for them. Anyway, may God bless Ghana.

You should check out most of the CEOs in the tech industry, most of them are foreign born. Checkout the biotech, engineering and etc, even the mighty USA knows how valuable many great minds could be, when given the opportunity. Do you know that Oppenheimer was a German scientist who worked for the Nazis? But the USA kept a blind eye on his association with the Nazis so he can help the USA with his knowledge in rocket engineering to propel the USA against the Soviets. How much more a country like Ghana which can't keep its towns and cities clean nor name its street drive out its own citizen? May God help us all.
