This is not something that had to generate so much fear among the Public. I think it was all hyped for both lack of information by many and conveniently scoring political points both at home against the incumbent Mahama, and Obama, by the Fox News bigots.
Ghana is not the only country that has shown that gesture to help the USA out of its difficult Social, Political, Legal and Humanitarian situation with Gitmo. There are, at least, 55 Countries around the World that have come forward to take in some of these freed Gitmo detainees.
All the questions about why the detainees were not released to mainland USA or their own home countries have been exhaustively answered by the Obama Administration. The cogent answers are everywhere on the Web.
My only concern was that our Government could have done better to settle our fears when the news broke. I do not fault the Government for not seeking Parliamentary approval or notifying the Public prior to admitting these detainees. That was not necessary. But when the news broke and people were being whipped into panic, the Government should immediately taken control of the situation to rest people's fears with every available means and facts.
It is not every thing of top National Security that the Commander-In-Chief has to blow open to the knowledge of the Public. Not even all MPs need to know everything all the time. Certain issues may also not be that grave but could easily be misinterpreted or misused to cause undue panic by others who have other agenda to push through. The last scenario is the case of this Yemeni detainee case in Ghana.
So, show some integrity, and that you are up to date on issues before you feed our folks with half truths and untruths.
