People in politics in this country are enjoying a very lucrative business.If this man who probably did not even complete basic education can boast of watch costing Gh.C70,000,then it tells of the precarious situation we find ourselves.Politics have made people from nowhere extremely rich.The obvious reason for that is that African politics in general and Ghanaian politics specifically is election centered rather than development centered.Political discourse on mass media provides ample evidence to this in the sense that most of it is not issue based.The focus of most politicians is how to attack and discredit each other both at party and personal level ignoring important issues bothering on national development.People who are vocal at casting innuendos and aspersion on political opponents in typical propagandious fashion typical of African politics are hugely rewarded with money and material wealth.There is nothing wrong with rewarding political functionaries.However,the burning issue of ignoring dire development need of the ordinary citizenry and tax payer to reward political functionaries just because election must be won at all cost is unfair.There is too much demand and burden on top politicians by party functionaries so much such that attempt to appease and please them go beyond election into period of political power.At the end of the day there is too much focus by the government on party matters with development need of the citizenry ignored in the process.The viscious chronic cycle of motivation for campaign for political power to be rewarded in turn continues whiles the real focus of governance in socioeconomic advancement of the country at large is ignored or partially given attention at best.This man for example is enjoying kingly status with a watch worth Gh.C70,000,his own house and routinely fly out of the country all at the expense of the tax payer.He boast of given Gh.C5000 to somebody which to him is a token.There are highly qualified,dedicated,hard working Ghanaians who work 24 hours round the clock but can't have a tenth of his resources.On top of it is the fact that they contribute high taxes to the development of the country to be squandered on politics when basic amenities like water, electricity sanitation together with food security,health care and communication are lacking.The media should avoid publishing these sort of irritating,boring stuff because it has the propensity to provoke the public in this period of high political tension.
