have been distributed. In 2013
alone, 32 million exercise books
were distributed to 4,768,806 pupils
across the country while 10 million
exercise books were distributed in
2014.
The tables below give a breakdown of figures at all levels.
3. Close to two million pupils have
been supplied with free school
uniforms since 2010.
4. In 2013, Goverment distributed
12.5 million English, Mathematics
and Science textbooks to public
basic schools. This enabled Ghana
to exceed the universal textbook -
pupil ratio of three textbooks per
pupil (3 textbooks for one pupil)
Currently, Ghana’s textbook-pupil
ratio stands at 4:1 (four textbooks
for one pupil).

I agree that education and making sure that the level of school leavers in Ghana is increased is important, but the elephant in the room is what will the cost be and how will this be funded and impact other more critical spending. The reason why (I believe) people struggle in Ghana is lack of opportunities (due to poor economic infrastructure) be this vocational, formal or even enterprise and not necessarily lack of education. A strong manufacturing, service and tech based economy can grant opportunities for those who are educated and those that aren’t. When people can work and earn a decent living then the issue of free education for their kids becomes less of a financial burden on them and on the state because you can have Ghanaians paying part or all their fees and government can supplement this if it chooses or put money (where it is needed more IMO) into school infrastructure (books, school buildings, integrated national IT databases).
Akuffo Ado needs to make sure that this issue doesn’t become an albatross around his neck. The poor economy infrastructure and the issues this causes (lack of jobs, crime, economic burden on the state, leakage of money, reduced investment, red tape, CORRUPTION in government – ports, airports etc, over population due to economic migration from other areas into Accra) has a bigger impact. If NPP can pay for free SHS AND also have credible plans for funding infrastructure (let alone dealing with the debt) then so be it....but not sure how this is possible. Ghana is broke.

What is bogus about my comment....you seem to not understand what I am saying. Were is the money coming from, has this been costed? The infrastructure in UK and Ghana is different so why compare. Ghana now is not Ghana at independence where there was money to be able to implement free education or do
you think Ghana has huge reserves of
money waiting for next government to use.
If there isn't the economic stability and infrastructure to support jobs then what jobs are these youth going to do or are you not seeing the numbers of youth currently unemployed in Ghana....those with all levels of education without jobs to go to.
