Following a yet to be established report that a Burkinabe contractor, gifted President Mahama a car to gain contract favours, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, has also tabled a car offer and pleaded with the president to give him contracts.

Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman ‘Wontumi’ says he will buy President Mahama Toyota cars made in and assembled in Japan to ensure he gets the contract to construct drains for communities within the Asawase constituency in the Ashanti Region.

His plea follows a promise by President Mahama to build proper drains for the community folks who were always tormented by floods after heavy rain falls.

According to him, he could buy President Mahama as many as ten Toyota cars if he is willing to give him the contract to build drains in Asawase.

“President Mahama likes gifts, and I can gift him several Toyota cars if he is willing to give me contracts. He should just name the specs; I will contact a dealer in Asia to get him one. I can get him ten cars from Toyota,” he told Peacefmonline.com.

President Mahama is currently in the Ashanti Region embarking on his accounting to the people tour.

Before embarking on the tour, he made it clear to Ghanaians during an interaction with some members of the clergy at the Flagstaff House that “I don’t use Ford, I don’t like American cars, I use Japanese cars, Toyota is my car…”

The above statement by the president was to answer critics who have accused him of corruption after accepting a Ford Expedition gift from a Burkinabe contractor.
