To understand the loss, the NDC needs only closely examine its performance in the Upper-West Region where it has been the dominant party; now it has 6 seats just one more than the NPP. The reason for this is simple. Greed on the part of the party regional executives. As long they were satisfied, they could care less about development in the region. The failure by President Mahama to fulfill his promise and do the right thing by converting the UDS as autonomous body was a big factor. Wa and the entire region is seeing transformation because of the UDS. The NDC should have known this yet, the president kept creating New Universities in other regions but ignored the Upper-West despite calls by the chiefs and opinions leaders of the region. The obvious reason to the peoplethat it was Tamale that threatened the president and NDC not to give a separate university to the region was painful; this is bound to change the fortunes of the party in the region forever, especially if the NPP does the right thing. Rashid Pelpuo was lucky to survive but much of the party's performance lay in people perception that elected officials careless about the region's development. the buffoonery of a regional minister that the president imposed on the people against all resistance needs not be mentioned. The politics of converting polytechnics into universities was a terrible miscalculation.
