Aponkye, why do some elements or people from the Ewe majority in the Volta Region see sinister motives in the creation of Oti Region? Rawlings created upper west and upper east regions from the Northern region and it did not excersabate ethnic strife. It enhanced development. The people of Oti Region wants their own region.
Think about this: the $250 million Airport at Ho? Would it have been money better spent to help the people of Oti Region? Could a second campus for the University of Health Sciences been established in that area of north Volta? Ho has a University and a Polytechnic ( University?) and another one at Kpandu.! Most governments spending in the Volta Region since 1992 have focused in the South Volta.
The Ewe majority should admit their political leaders have not done much for the people of Oti Region, thus their demand for their own region.?
Akuffo Addo is acting on the petitions of the people of Oti Region. Similar petitions were sent to NDC administrations?
Devolution of power from political centers to the regions and Districts would be good for the rapid development of Ghana. And must be pursued.
Seeing regional reorganization through NDC/ NPP lenses is short sighted.
Aponkye , be assured the current support dynamics of NDC will survive creation of new Regions. Political support is dynamic. Any political party that assumes any advantage through regional organization would be disappointed.
NPP and NDC both created more Parliamentary seats during their tenures in the last 16 years sssuming advantage?
They both lost power after 8 years each.
Ghanaians are no fools., they have shown. The joke is on the politicians who assume otherwise!!!!

The truth is under the present arrangement the south made up of Ayigbes and Ewes has dominated the politics of the Volta Region resulting in the neglect of the North[Oti Region].The assumption here is that the creation of the 'Oti Region' will stop the neglect and allow the new region to develop faster than it has been now.The clamour for the 'Oti Region'clearly shows the dormant political divide which has existed between the south and north of the Volta Region for years.

President Akuffo-Addo's NPP government is going to cause this country to break up. Parts of this country will secede because of this action. One can smell civil wars hanging around the corner. Why not call this new region ''Upper Volta'' instead of Oti Region ? Secondly, will this new region seperate Nkonya and Elavanyo or only the Akans and Guans from the Ewes ? Necessity is the mother of invention.

If you meant good for the region go ahead and develop it and stop the division. The land area of Ashanti is bigger than that of Volta, why not divide it?
