About 13,000 prospective voters have been captured so far, in the ongoing limited voter’s registration exercise in six districts and municipalities in the Eastern region at the various centers as at the weekend.

The figure involves largely those who had turned 18 years and want to exercise their franchise for the first time in the upcoming district assembly elections and the referenda on the election of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives as well as the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The districts are New Juaben 3,897, Suhum 2,554, Upper- Manya Krobo 1,221, Kwahu East 2,576, Denkyembuour 1,661 and Atiwa 2,062.

In an interview with the New Juaben Municipal Electoral officer, Mrs Lydia Egyiri Sackey, she noted that the exercise so far had been smooth and participation had been very high, hence the daily increment in numbers of those captured.

She disclosed that applicants between the ages of 18 and 21 were participating fully in the exercise and hoped that by the end of the exercise, a significant number of voters would be added to the electoral register to enable them vote.

According to her, the registration had not been halted on any account since it started, however, there had been shortages of registration forms and that had contributed to some delays and inconveniences in the process.

When the GNA visited some of the centers, it observed that due to challenges with internet connectivity, long queues had been formed with prospective voters waiting for their turns to be captured, whiles the various electoral officers had devised strategies to capture people without difficulty by moving some of the kits to strategic locations.
