The National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Monarh has, accused the police service for carrying out their activities under a partisan spectacle.

His comment comes on the back of the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) inviting him for questioning over some pronouncements made on the new voters’ register.

Speaking to GhanaWeb on the sidelines of his solidarity walk to the CID headquarters on Tuesday, the PNC chairman called out the police for being partisan.

“Last week, the central regional minister called on the police to invite me over my voter’s registration comment and the next day the police had the courage to invite me. So it is a partisan invitation. So I am going to the NPP partisan police who invited me to go and listen to what they have to say. As a law abiding citizen, since they used the CID letter head I will have to go.”

Mr Monarh further stressed that the police service has now subscribed to doing the bidding of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“Anytime somebody, aside an NPP member, makes a comment that person is called before the police for intimidation. I will not be intimidated. I will speak my mind. And like I said, if it is my life they want, I will donate it to them as a trophy but I will never keep quiet. I still stand by my words.”

Bernard Monarh was invited by the police over an alleged inflammatory statement which strongly cautioned the EC of a potential outbreak of political violence at registration centers.

The PNC chairman said the likely violence will be as a result of the exclusion of the existing voters ID card from the list of identification requirements for the new voter registration exercise.

Reacting to his comment, the NDC said “for purposes of emphasis, the NDC wholly endorses and subscribes fully to the comments made by Comrade Bernard Mornah.”
