In a heartwarming event on June 1, 2024, the Aidenteh Foundation made a significant donation to Mepe Ladies Football Club, providing much-needed support to a team that had faced tremendous adversity. The donation ceremony took place at Mepe, a town nestled in the Volta Region of Ghana, which had recently endured the devastating effects of the Akosombo Dam spillage. The disaster displaced thousands of Indigenous people and led to widespread calls for an investigation into the causes and consequences of the spillage.

A Community Safe Haven Amidst Crisis

Mepe St. Kizito Senior High Technical School, where the founder of Mepe Ladies FC, Mr. Klogo Godfred teaches, played a pivotal role during the crisis. According to Klogo Godfred, the school served as a safe haven for the entire township during the spillage. It provided shelter and a sense of security to many who had lost their homes and livelihoods. However, the disaster also took a toll on the school and the football team. In the chaos of the evacuation, much of the team’s football kits and equipment were washed away, leaving the players with little more than their determination and spirit.

A Plea for Help and a Response of Generosity

Recognizing the dire situation, the founder of Mepe Ladies FC reached out to Miss Aicha Amoako Denteh, President of the Aidenteh Foundation who also doubles as the Welfare and Team Manager for Ghana’s U20 Black Princesses and Berry Ladies Football Club, with a heartfelt plea for assistance. Moved by the story and the resilience of the community, Miss Aicha Amoako Denteh and her Aidenteh Foundation team decided to step in and help.

Accompanied by a dedicated team from Aidenteh Foundation, Miss Amoako Denteh arrived in Mepe to deliver the much-needed donation. Joining them was Samuel Kwame Boadu, the Founder of SamBoad Business Group Ltd, whose support further highlighted the significance of the occasion.

A Celebration of Resilience and Achievement

During the ceremony, Miss Amoako Denteh and Samuel Kwame Boadu addressed the players and management of Mepe Ladies FC, offering words of encouragement and admiration. They congratulated the team on their remarkable achievement of placing second in the Volta Regional Division One league, despite the challenges they had faced.

“The strength and resilience you have shown in the face of such adversity is truly inspiring,” Aicha Amoako Denteh said. “We are here today not just to offer our support but to celebrate your spirit and dedication. You are a testament to the power of community and perseverance.”

A Gesture of Gratitude and a Tour of Hope

In a touching gesture of gratitude, the management of Mepe Ladies FC expressed their deep appreciation for the support from the Aidenteh Foundation. To mark the occasion, they organized a tour of the Akosombo Dam for the Aidenteh team, using the town’s traditional canoe. This tour not only highlighted the natural beauty of the area but also highlighted one of the town’s vital sources of income.

As the canoe glided over the serene waters, the visitors gained a deeper understanding of the community’s way of life and the resilience that had helped them navigate the recent crisis. The tour symbolized hope and the promise of better days ahead, made possible by the generosity of organizations like the Aidenteh Foundation.

A New Chapter for Mepe Ladies FC

With renewed hope and resources, Mepe Ladies FC is now poised to rebuild and continue their journey in women’s football. The donation from the Aidenteh Foundation has provided them with new football kits and equipment, essential tools that will enable the players to train and compete at their best.

As the ceremony concluded, the spirit of camaraderie and shared purpose was palpable. The partnership between Mepe Ladies FC, the Aidenteh Foundation, and SamBoad Business Group Ltd stands as a powerful example of how communities and organizations can come together to overcome adversity and build a brighter future.

The donation from Aidenteh Foundation marks a significant milestone in the recovery and growth of Mepe Ladies FC. It is a testament to the power of compassion, community, and resilience. As the female team looks forward to new opportunities and achievements, the support they have received and will continue to receive will undoubtedly play a crucial role in their continued success and the upliftment of Women’s Football at the Mepe community.
