The Alagumgube Association, an international community-driven group, has donated essential items to inmates of the Navrongo Central Prison to help them celebrate the upcoming Christmas holiday.
The donation, which includes 50 bags of 25kg rice, 5 large gallons of oil, 5 boxes of tin tomatoes, and 10 student mattresses, was made on behalf of the association, founded by Mr. Gabriel Akakiire Agambila in Virginia, USA, along with other members such as Diana Mba and Monica Apognyambila.
The association, which began as the West North East Association, was inaugurated in New Jersey on September 7, 2024, and has grown rapidly to include 182 members across the globe. Alagumgube’s objectives include strengthening community ties, supporting cultural and educational development, and enhancing welfare and health initiatives.
The donation event was marked by a speech from Caroline Kurug representative of Alagumgube, expressing the group’s deep commitment to the welfare of the less fortunate.
"It is with great joy and a sense of deep compassion that we come together today to celebrate the spirit of Christmas by reaching out to the Navrongo Prison community," said the representative. “Christmas is a time of love, generosity, and togetherness, and we want to remind the prisoners that they are not forgotten and that they too deserve the warmth and joy of the season.”
The contribution to the Navrongo Prisoners is part of Alagumgube’s broader mission to enhance the welfare of marginalized communities. The association’s message of hope, redemption, and unity during the holiday season resonated strongly, as many inmates may face feelings of isolation during this time of year.
The ceremony also served as a tribute to one of the association’s most dedicated members, the late Sia Yambire, who passed away just four days ago. Yambire’s significant contributions to the cause were acknowledged with deep appreciation, as he would have been present to witness the impact of the donation.
The members of Alagumgube expressed gratitude to all contributors and wished the inmates a Merry Christmas in advance, hoping that this small but meaningful gesture would bring peace, comfort, and a renewed sense of community to the Navrongo Prison this festive season.
As the holiday season draws near, the Alagumgube Association continues to demonstrate the power of community and the spirit of giving, uplifting those who are often overlooked and making a tangible difference in their lives.
