The attention of the Aowin Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress has been drawn to an act of unfortunate incident where people suspected to be members of the NPP vigilante group and surrogates of Hon E.K. Osei were engaged in pulling down of NDC flags and tearing of posters of Hon Oscar Ofori Larbi across the Constituency.
Much as we take cognisance of the law which compels all citizens to obtain a permit before erecting a sign post, it has remained a convention that political party paraphernalia are allowed to hang on Signposts in every election year.
We also wish to remind the public of the established procedure which requires the Municipal Assembly to notify political parties to remove their signposts within a specific period during and after every election. In reference to ACT 936 of the Local Government Act 2016 therefore, we believe the NPP or the Municipal Assembly had no locus to warrant arbitrary destruction of the NDC's paraphernalia across the municipality in this time.
We, therefore, wish to register our resentment against this act of political persecution and roundly condemn the wanton disregard for the rights of other citizens to engage in politics from the opposition. We further wish to call on the general public, civil society groups, the clergy etc to stand up against any form of violence, that is orchestrated to dim the sanctity of the forthcoming elections and plunge our nation into an abyss.
We want to sound a very strong word of caution to the NPP and their surrogates to desist from such undemocratic, tyrannical and cowardice actions before they incur our counteraction and retribution.
The NDC is a peace-loving organization, nonetheless, we will not kowtow to any action from our opponents that will be detrimental to the realization of our goal which is "Victory for the NDC in the 7th December 2020 General Elections". We will match the NPP boot for boot if we are pushed further.
.......Signed.....
Stephen Morcher
