Atlantic Lithium's female leaders that are championing diversity and equality in the mining industry

Atlantic Lithium, which is on track to build Ghana’s first lithium mine, is proud to be an advocate for equal opportunity employment.

While the mining sector remains heavily male-dominated today, the company believes that showcasing the successes of its female staff will inspire more young women to consider a career in the sector.

This International Women’s Day, Atlantic Lithium is spotlighting six of its prominent team members that are spearheading Ghanaian women’s increasing influence in the world of mining.

Halima Musah, Administrative Manager

Halima was born and raised in Obuasi, a gold mining community in Ghana's Ashanti Region.

She read B. Ed Accounting and Management at the University of Cape Coast and holds an MBA in International Business from the University of Wollongong, Dubai.

Her career in the mining industry commenced with the supply of mining consumables to Liberia, before working for mining exploration firm All-African Minerals Explorer Company Limited for 10 years in Ghana, Cote D’Ivoire, Mali and Burkina Faso.

In 2016, she took up an administrative role with Atlantic Lithium (then IronRidge Resources), making her one of the Company’s longest serving employees.

In her role as Administrative Manager, Halima has proven to be a crucial driver of the success of the Company’s operations in Ghana.

“I believe young women should take up technical courses in mining at an early stage in their education. This will increase the number of female appointments in the sector and aid in altering the false perception that women cannot succeed in the mining industry. There are a wide range of career opportunities in the industry that women can consider. Being challenged in life is inevitable, but the challenges in the industry help us flourish as women.” - Halima Musah

Dr. Millicent Aning-Agyei, Social and Environment Manager:

Having earned a PhD in Development Studies from the University of Cape Coast and gained mining experience at the Iduaprim mine in Tarkwa, Dr. Millicent first worked with Atlantic Lithium in 2020 as a consultant, part of the team conducting environmental and social gap analysis for the Company.

Her work was fundamental in the Company establishing the community development fund, which will deliver 1% of the revenue generated by the Ewoyaa Lithium Project to the local communities in and around the project area.

Dr. Millicent recently joined Atlantic Lithium full-time as a Community Relations and Social Performance Manager, where she leads the Company’s stakeholder engagement activities, local procurement, social and environmental-related topics, and driving the long-term development of the local community.

“Women tend to excel in people-oriented roles due to their naturally empathetic nature. I enjoy my role as a Community Relations and Social Performance Manager, which involves stakeholder consultations and consensus building for stronger partnerships and local development. My male counterparts are highly supportive of my role, which is imperative in achieving our organisational development goals. Women should not back down when seeking new opportunities and insisting on equal rights to ensure they excel in the industry like their male counterparts. Florence Bossman-Ammah, Communication and Corporate Affairs Manager:

Florence is a seasoned professional with a decade of experience in communications, prior to joining Atlantic Lithium, she held various roles in the government sector.

In her role at Atlantic Lithium, she is responsible for the managing the Company’s brand and its active dialogue with all stakeholders.

She is particularly passionate about Corporate Social Responsibility activities and is thrilled to be part of a team geared towards making a life-transforming impact in communities within the catchment area of the Ewoyaa Lithium Project, and Ghana as a whole.

Florence is an alumna of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where she read Industrial Arts. She also holds an MBA from Accra Business School.

“The communication, financial, administration, procurement and social departments are prime examples of areas where people from non-technical backgrounds can thrive in the mining sector. In our bid to facilitate a gender-balanced, all-inclusive and healthy work environment, Atlantic Lithium has set a good example by hiring highly qualified Ghanaian women, both from mining and non-mining backgrounds, who are at the helm across various key positions within the Company. Beatrice Assan, Database Analyst and Geologist:

Beatrice was born and raised in Awaso, a mining community in the Western North Region of Ghana, which heighted her interest in mining from a young age.

As such, she proceeded to study Geology at the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa.

She began her mining career at the Anglo-Ashanti Iduaprim mines, before joining Atlantic Lithium in 2018.

Beatrice currently holds roles as both a Geologist and a Data Analyst at the Company.

“I had a budding interest in the mining industry and was encouraged by a male friend to read Geological Engineering. To be candid, I was wondering if I would be able to overcome, what I perceived at the time, to be such an academic challenge. I am glad I took this leap of faith; I love geology and I am enjoying every step of the journey. Atlantic Lithium offers equal opportunity for both men and women. Martha Appiagyei, Marketing and Public Relations Officer

Martha was born and raised in Obuasi, a mining community and town in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Martha’s knack for social interaction has led her success in people and relationship management throughout her work experience in the public relations, marketing and communications space.

In her role, she is proud to be using her creative and writing talents to showcase the Company’s activities and staff. She believes that her role at Atlantic Lithium will lead to a long and successful role in the communications sector.

She’s an alumna of the University of Cape Coast, where she read Marketing, and holds a master’s degree in Corporate Communications from Webster University in the United States.

“Fulfillment comes from finding meaning and purpose in what I do, and the impact I make on others and the world. My people management skills make me well suited with a company whose vision aligns with my personal values. The ability to impact lives brings me so much fulfillment. Women are capable and well-equipped to take up roles that involve human-related issues, and Atlantic Lithium offers great opportunities that can deliver a positive impact on its local communities, and Ghana at large.” - Martha Appiagyei



Veritas Ebiyatakyih, Environmental Monitoring and Rehabilitation Supervisor:

Veritas is a trained Environmentalist and has been working with Atlantic Lithium, assisting with geological works, since its exploration days under the Company’s former name of IronRidge Resources.

She is one of the longest serving employees of Atlantic Lithium and is a native of Saltpond in the Central Region of Ghana.

She has a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Developmental Studies, in the Northern Region of Ghana, and worked for a period with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2015.

In her role, Veritas expertly juggles activities across the Company’s environmental, geological, social, and community engagement departments.

“I had been job hunting to no avail for years and, in my bid to make some money, I ventured into street food vending in Ewoyaa Junction. Atlantic Lithium’s Country Manager, Abdul-Razak, engaged me in a conversation on his way to the mine site and was impressed by the fact that I was a BSc Environmental Science graduate. He subsequently offered me my dream job as an Environmental Monitoring and Rehabilitation Supervisor.
