Celebrating 5 years of the ghana garden and flower movement in ghana’s 60TH YEAR
The innovative Ghana Garden & Flower Movement and its flagship activity, the Ghana Garden and Flower Show, celebrate five (5) years later this year. The fifth edition of the Show will be taking place in early September. Coinciding with Ghana’s sixtieth (60th) year, the Show continues to focus on contributing to national development through income generation, job creation, environmental conservation and beautification. It also seeks to facilitate the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ghana.
Initiated in 2013, the Movement has been promoting among Ghanaians the importance of floriculture and horticulture with a view to deriving from our rich flora and fauna, personal, community and national benefits.
In the past four years, the Movement has created increased awareness about the commercial, aesthetic and psychological benefits of horticulture and floriculture.
The Show has grown tremendously with participation increasing from 14 exhibitors and 1,400 visitors in 2013 to close to 100 exhibitors and almost 15,000 visitors in 2016.
We are forever grateful to the various organizations who have supported the activities of the movement through sponsorship. Numerous individuals also continue to nurture the Movement with their time, treasure and talent and we say Ayekoo to them.
Ms. Esther A. N. Cobbah, Chief Executive Officer of Stratcomm Africa, initiators and organizers of the show says, “What is really satisfying already about the Show is that there has been a significant raising of national consciousness about the value to be derived from gardens and flowers, with growing interest, amongst young people especially. Ghana has the potential to earn billions of dollars from flower exports annually while millions of its citizens directly or indirectly earn a living from the industry. As we celebrate our 60th year of independence, we can aim to bequeath a greener, wealthier, healthier and more beautiful Ghana”.
She added, ‘we can save some foreign exchange by cultivating some of our floriculture and horticulture needs as well as earn foreign exchange by positioning Ghana as a beautiful tourism and investment destination.'
The 2017 Ghana Garden and Flower Show will be launched later this month. Exciting 5th Anniversary activities will be unveiled at the launch.
