The maiden Coolest Projects Ghana Showcase and competition for kid tech makers concluded yesterday, highlighting the extraordinary talents of young creators in the country.
The event, which brought together budding technologists from various schools, saw over 70 participants receive resources to continue their journey in tech innovation. Among the many impressive entries, three young tech enthusiasts emerged as the top winners, showcasing projects that promise to make a significant impact.
Elijah Tetteh, a 13-year-old student from Hallmark International and a member of the Ghana Code Club, clinched the first prize. Elijah developed a Python Django web application designed to diagnose car engine issues. By providing suggested actions based on the symptoms described by users, his innovative solution aims to simplify car maintenance and repair.
The second-place honor went to Hakeem Nnamo Mohammed and his team from Presec Legon, who are all teenagers and high school students. They created an automatic egg incubator that operates without the need for electricity, using batteries and solar power instead. The incubator features a thermostat that regulates temperature, ensuring optimal conditions for egg incubation.
Third place was awarded to Bryon-Richard Papa Kwabla Dawson, a 10-year-old from Hillview Montessori School. Bryon’s startup, Bryon AgroTech, is a web-based poultry management system built with Python Django for the backend and HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend. Utilizing SQLite for development and Chart.js for data visualization, his system helps streamline poultry farming operations by providing insights into production trends, inventory levels, and sales metrics.
In addition to the top three winners, seven other creators were recognized for their exceptional creativity and entrepreneurial skills. These young innovators received various awards, underscoring their potential to shape the future of technology in Ghana.
The event's success was made possible by the Ghana Code Club in partnership with Raspberry Pi Foundation UK, and invaluable support from Elsie Effah Kaufmann”s foundation, Fireflyio, SeedAfrique and Exposure Consult Ghana, as well as volunteers, and Galaxy International School. Their dedication and commitment helped create a platform where young minds could shine.
