The International Maritime Hospital has been enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme to continue in the provision of healthcare service delivery to the public

At a ceremony to present a credentialing certificate to the Hospital, the Chief Executive of NHIA, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye disclosed that the current membership of the scheme stands at 17.2 million. The Authority, according to him pays 200 million Ghana cedis monthly claims from healthcare providers across the country.

He said the addition of IMaH to the NHIS family will not only help Ghana attain Universal Health Coverage but also bring some positive gains to the world-class facility.

“We are striving hard to cover at least eighty percent of the population of Ghana to attain universal health coverage. Which by definition refers to eighty percent access to healthcare without financing being the barrier at the point of requiring the healthcare. If there is any partnership between IMaH and NHIS, then people will really experience all the wonderful things that you have here and that is why this morning I’m glad that finally the marriage ceremony is happening,” he said.

The CEO of IMaH, Dr. Akwasi Achampong said the hospital intends to bring world-class healthcare services to the doorstep of Ghanaians.

He lauded the partnership between IMaH and the NHIS which he said will bring improved healthcare to clients.

“Today is another standard and another level, having partnered with National Health Insurance Authority is a great achievement. We want every citizen of this country to have IMaH care, to have international care, to have care that if it is Ghana, you find at the International Maritime Hospital. Even if it is not in Ghana, we can guarantee that we will get it for you,” he assured.

The Board Chairman of IMaH, Professor Gladys Amponsah promised to collaborate with the National Health Insurance Authority and also comply with the rules and regulations of the NHIS for professional healthcare delivery.

“These are formative months, we want your feedback so that IMaH can do better and better and better. I am hoping that IMaH will become your star hospital in terms of complying with rules and regulations, and doing the things that will make you happy,” she said.

The representative of the Director-General of GPHA, Dr. Alexander Adusei said the partnership is in line with the Corporate Social Responsibility of GPHA.

“GPHA is happy to be here to witness this occasion for us to contribute to the economic development of Ghana. We built this facility not to serve only our workers as the CEO mentioned but to serve our community and also as part of our cooperation, and social responsibility. For us to add NHIS as part of this development, I am happy,” he said.
