*PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY THE MOVEMENT FOR BETTER GHANA TO RESPOND TO

THE ETHNOCENTRIC CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED BY THE 2012 FLAGBEARER OF THE NPP , NANA

ADDO DANKWA AKUFO ADDO IN A VIOLENT MANNER, INTER ALIA “ALL DIE BE DIE” ON

TUESDAY 15TH FEBRUARY 2011*

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen of the press. We are grateful for your

attention. Let us take this opportunity to congratulate you for your fair

and accurate reportage on our ‘Hwehwe Mu’ demonstration in Kumasi last

month.

We thank you and expect a fruitful working relationship in subsequent

publications.

Ladies and gentlemen of the press as you are aware, this country witnessed

one of it’s dark moments since the introduction of the 1992 republican

constitution, when in koforidua the New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) Flag bearer

for election 2012 Nana Akufo Addo categorically sought to portray in his

assumption that “we AKANS are feeble and with the slightest tickle would run

for cover” to which he charged AKANS to stand up to violence amid his “ALL

DIE BE DIE” chant.

Ladies and gentlemen of the press, first and foremost it is not true that

all Akans belong to the NPP, because I, who is addressing you today is an

Akan with roots in history likewise my colleagues here Adusei, Brogya Genfi,

whose Grandfather, Late Nana Kofi Genfi II, widely known as ‘the hat man’ is

a distinguished son of ASANTEMAN and can mention other members on this

table. We do not and will never belong to or support nor sympathize in

anyway with the NPP but we are AKANS!

Between 1824 and 1901 Akans and particularly Ashanti’s had fought so many

wars and won, sometimes we fought the British who had sophisticated weapons

and won and this was because of our bravery and military might which

compelled the British to visit my grand father’s Palace to sign the Treaty

of Fomena in July 1874, with the Asantehene to end the over four

Anglo-Ashanti war.

Indeed Some British accounts pay tribute to the hard fighting of the Ashanti

at Amoaful, particularly the tactical insight of their commander,

Amankwatia; the great Chief Amankwatia was among the killed. His admirable

skill was shown in the position selected by Amankwatia, and the

determination and generalship he displayed in the defense, which fully bore

out his great reputation as an able tactician and a gallant soldier.

So throughout out history, from Osagyafo Kuntunkunuku to Ofori panin, from

Otumfuo Osei Tutu I through Agyeman Prempeh I to Opoku Ware I, from Yaa

Asantewaa to Tweneboa Kodua, from Tsibu Darko to Boa Amponsem, from Ameyaw

Ekumfi to Agyeman Badu, and the Exploits of the great Okomfo Anokye, AKANS

have and will always be brave and courageous,

But we are surprised that most opinion leaders who are known to be masters

of condemnations of such sullied utterances have intentionally failed to

come out to condemn Nana Akufo Addo for trying to divide Ghanaians by his

Akans partisan politics and distorting our background history.

Where is the Bar association?

Where is the National peace council?

Where is the Christian council, the Clergy?

Where is the National Muslim Council?

Where are the women groups and child rights activist – the Bright Appiahs

(women and children suffer most during war)?

Where are the various Houses of Chiefs?

They are all quite as if they support the position of Nana Akufo Addo that

Akans are said to be feeble and that “all die be die”.

Ladies and gentlemen of the press, Ghana will stand up against any political

organization that seeks to divide us and propagate trouble. To this end, we

call on all who believe in good governance and the better Ghana we all yearn

for, to stand up for democracy.

At this juncture, the MBG would like to ask Nana Addo to explain himself

further whether he (Nana Addo) instructed the blockade of roads at Atiwa and

whether the numerous violence that took place during that bye-elections were

his brain child when he states that “*at least during the Atiwa

bye-election, we showed a little of our colours there”.*

Let the MBG again remind the irrational beings who are embracing the “ALL

DIE BE DIE” slogan that they will die in vain. What happened to the late

Ahunu Ahonga who laid his life for Nana Addo in the Kume Preko

Demonstration? Ahunu Ahonga DIED for Kume Preko and Nana Addo but

interestingly Nana Addo failed to seek justice for him even when the blood

of Ahunu Ahonga earned him his Attorney General position.

We are giving Nana Akufo Addo TEN DAYS ultimatum from today to come out to

retract his ethnocentric and war mongering statement and further render an

unqualified apology to the people of Ghana.

Failure to do so, we will drag him before the above mentioned organizations.

From today, we refuse to play a part in the ethnocentric partisan political

campaign. But, let it be known that cowards die many times before their

death.

GOD BLESS GHANA!!!

THANK YOU.
