SUAAG condemns the ongoing genocide in Sudan's Al-Fasher

The Sudanese Universities Alumni Association of Ghana (SUAAG) has strongly condemned what it describes as ongoing genocide and atrocities being committed in Al Fasher, Sudan, urging swift international intervention to halt the bloodshed and protect civilians.

"We write with a heavy heart to condemn the horrific atrocities unfolding in Sudan’s Al Fasher. The international community has a moral obligation to act urgently to protect the Sudanese people from genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity."

The situation in Al Fasher

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have launched a devastating assault on Al Fasher, resulting in thousands of civilian casualties, mass displacement, and widespread destruction.

Reports from the ground paint a grim picture of summary executions, mass killings, and gang rapes, with hundreds of civilians and unarmed fighters potentially killed.

International community’s response

We call upon the United Nations, the African Union, the East African Community Bloc, the Southern African Development Community Bloc, and ECOWAS to:

• Demand an immediate ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need

• Impose targeted sanctions on individuals and entities responsible for these atrocities

• Support investigations and prosecutions for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide

• Provide humanitarian assistance to affected populations, including food, shelter, and medical care

We stand in solidarity with the people of Sudan, particularly the vulnerable groups, who are bearing the brunt of this conflict.

We urge the international community to prioritize their protection and safety above all else.

We call on all parties to work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict, but this must be done in a way that prioritizes the safety and dignity of the Sudanese people.
