Education think tank Education Policy Institute Africa (EDUPA) has commended the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the concerted effort to ensure “a more efficient and transparent system” regarding this year’s senior high school placements.
EDUPA says the “seamless” process has guaranteed the reopening date for the Form 1 students.
The Monday, December 4 reopening date had stirred controversy, resulting in Parliament summoning the sector minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.
The legislative arm of government had directed the Service to withdraw its directive.
However, a statement on Monday, December 4 from EDUPA and signed by its Executive Secretary, Mark Ewusi Arkoh, said the Ministry and its agency need the support of all as this year’s placements have been one of the most transparent.
“The system's integrity has been bolstered, thereby ensuring fairness and equitable distribution of placements based on students’ performance, merit, and school capacities,” the statement said.
“The timely dissemination of information and updates by the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service has played a vital role in facilitating effective communication with students, parents, and other stakeholders.
“This initiative has minimized confusion and helped alleviate anxiety as the placement process began.”
EDUPA commended the two bodies “for building upon this success and urged them to continue to explore opportunities for further enhancements in the coming years”.
It called upon all and sundry to “support this transformative initiative by providing the necessary support to ensure the betterment of Ghana’s education”.
