UMB assures Hajj participants of financial freedom with the UMB prepaid visa card

Universal Merchant Bank, a leading indigenous Ghanaian Bank today announced a package of support to enable Ghanaian Muslims undertake the Hajj Pilgrimage safely and securely with the UMB prepaid visa cards.

The prepaid visa cards from UMB allow Ghanaians who do not have to be customers of the Bank apply for and get a fully functional visa card on which they can load their cash unto. These cards are enabled so that they work safely and securely online and in most countries around the world, including Saudi Arabia.

Speaking on the product, Mr. Sam Donkor, General Manager, Virtual and Transactional Banking at UMB said “we are very proud of our partnership with Visa that allows us to deliver these cards. The Hajj is one of the safest mass transit events in the world, and indeed these prepaid cards are mainly geared towards delivering more convenience and security to customers so they can focus on the reflection, meditation and inner – peace they wish to achieve during the Hajj.

All our branches in Ghana are enabled to deliver these visa cards, and the typical wait time for both customers and non-customers to apply for the cards is not more than 15 minutes. Customers also have the option of opening an account with UMB on which they can apply and secure UMB platinum Visa cards which enables even more solutions and benefits to the customers. In his remarks, Mr. Samuel Sakyi Hyde, General Manager Personal Banking at UMB indicated that “ As Muslims, going on a Hajj pilgrimage is a spiritual journey of a lifetime, and UMB recognizes the importance of providing peace of mind to pilgrims when it comes to managing their finances.

With the UMB Visa Prepaid Card, Hajj pilgrims can enjoy financial freedom and focus on their spiritual obligations, knowing that their banking needs are taken care of with utmost convenience and reliability.

We are in a state of advanced talks with the authorities to see how the issuance of the cards can be facilitated to Pilgrims of the Hajj as part of the Hajj package from Ghana.

I will also use this opportunity to remind our cherished pilgrims of our new life insurance solutions namely the UMB Educational Plan, and the UMB Funeral Plan which are underwritten by SIC Life. The UMB Educational Plan ensures that the account value at maturity is substantial enough to meet educational expenses of the assured or that of their children.

It also gives room for the assured to select at inception the term of the policy and the premium amount. An added feature of this educational plan is that the minimum term of this product is 10 years, with the maximum term being 20 years subject to a maturity age of 60 years whiles the UMB Funeral Plan is designed to provide immediate cash pay out to meet funeral expenses of the assured, or any other designated beneficiaries.

Benefits of the UMB Funeral Plan include nominated beneficiaries being paid the updated death benefits upon the death of the assured.
