I am humbled and deem it an honour to join Africans on the continent and in the diaspora for the celebration of Africa Youth Day on the 1st of November every year. This date is commemorated every year and was proclaimed on the adoption of the African Youth Charter in Banjul, Gambia in 2006 and it recognizes youth as key agents for Africa’s socio-economic growth and sustainable development. As part of my renewed commitment to amplify the voices of young people, broaden their participation, and facilitate creating an enabling environment for youth entrepreneurs, youth investors, and youth working with industry in the development of the Continent. The Federation is poised on working to address issues affecting young people, their businesses, and investments and working in close collaboration with the relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to create entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for the youth in the continent. The Federation works to contribute to the effective implementation of African Union (AU) youth policies and programs, and support the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreements particularly those which are youth-focused, national youth policies, national youth entrepreneurship policies, programs, and projects. The Federation youth mobilization drive is anchored on building a prosperous nation within the African Continent with very gainfully employed and well-established productive youth entrepreneurs, youth investors, and youth in the industry to contribute their quota tremendously to their respective countries and the continent as a whole. The preparation of our African continental strategic plan is focused on youth entrepreneurship, youth investment, and youth employment as well as targeted research and advocacy for AfCFTA agreements that seek to create one common market for ease of doing business in the continent. In addition, the Federation will embark on flagship programmes and initiatives that address Agenda 2063’s sixth aspiration which calls for “An Africa whose development is people-driven, relying on the potential of the African people, especially its women and youth, and caring for children”. It is also very imperative to mention that, the Federation is working around the clock to provide the needed opportunities for youth in the areas of Leadership, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Business Ownership to absorb the teaming number of unemployed youth within the continent. I am also highly impressed with the efforts made by H.E Wamkele Mene, Secretary General of AfCFTA, relevant stakeholders, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), and Development partners, AfCFTA Secretariat, AfCFTA National Coordinating Office for their continuous and frantic efforts in supporting in the Youth-Led Business initiatives. I also call on all relevant stakeholders and development partners to support the implementation of AfCFTA agreements across the continent for the successful creation of a common market for homegrown African commodities and goods. The successful implementation of AfCFTA agreements will go a long way to create an enabling environment for ease of doing business, which will add value to youth investments, and youth entrepreneurship and shape the future of the African youth within the continent and the diaspora.
