Institut Français du Ghana and Alliance Française Accra in partnership with the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), Alliance Française Kumasi and Takoradi present the 4th edition of the annual Ghana Francophone Film Festival from 16th June to 25th June 2016.

Created in 2013 by Institut Français du Ghana in partnership with NAFTI to become a platform of mutual discovery between francophone and Ghanaian cinema, the Film Festival aims at promoting the French language and the Francophone culture in Ghana as well as fostering a strong movie industry in the country.

This year the festival will exhibit eight (8) of the best and award winning Francophone and Anglophone movies of diverse categories namely comedy, drama, documentary and animation from France and Africa among which is “Silver Rain” a Ghanaian movie by movie actress, Juliet Asante. The Francophone films will be subtitled in English and vice-versa.

A very interesting part of the festival is the short films competition opened to the new generation of Ghanaian filmmakers, in the category of fiction, animation and documentary to win the best short film award. Winners will be rewarded with lots of exciting prizes and the first prize will be a trip to attend a film festival in France!

The festival will begin with an opening ceremony on Thursday, 16th June at Alliance Française Accra at 6:30 pm. In attendance will be delegates from the French Embassy, Institut Français du Ghana, NAFTI and Alliance Française Accra. This will be followed by the projection of the French comedy movie by Bruno Padalydes “Comme un Avion” in order to start the event with (a bunch of) some joy and laughter.

As part of the festival’s goals, this year’s closing ceremony will be dedicated to the upcoming generation of Ghanaian filmmakers with the screening of a recent long feature: “Silver Rain” by Juliet Asante on Saturday, 25th June at Alliance Française Accra at 6:30pm. Also scheduled for the evening will be the best short films’ award ceremony.

Though the opening and closing ceremony of the event will be at the Alliance Francaise of Accra, the selected films for the festival will also be projected at NAFTI’s hostel in Accra, at Alliance Française of Kumasi and at Alliance Française of Takoradi.

The festival is open to all. Come and celebrate with us these unforgettable moments of discovery.
