Adukrom, May 8, GNA- A six classroom block and a refurbished JSS block costing 67.5 million cedis was inaugurated at at Adukrom VRA Resettlement Township in the Akuapem-North district on Friday. The fund for the project was provided by the Volta River Authority (VRA) Resettlement Trust Fund.
Chairman of the Fund, Chief Musa B. Adam said since the inception of the Fund, a total of 215 projects have been executed for all the affected 52 resettlement-townships in the area.
The project involved the provision of health care centres, school blocks and community centres.
He appealed to the beneficiaries to take good care of the facilities and ensure regular maintenance of the projects.
Chief Musa said after over 35 years of the Akosombo Project, the welfare of the resettlement continued to be a paramount concern to the government, hence the establishment of the Trust Fund.
He said the Management of Trustees were drawn from Members of parliament, the Ministry of Energy and the Volta River Authority who are charged with the responsibilities of administering the fund for the benefit of the affected communities.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Francis Osafo-Mensah, whose speech was read for him said the government would always ensure that greater proportion of its budgetary allocation was given to the education sector for the provision of infrastructure, equipment and textbooks.
Dr Osafo-Mensah said most of the Basic schools in the country now have modern classroom blocks and furniture for the children and assured that the government would continue to ensure that all basic schools in the country are adequately resourced.
He said the successful completion of the school project is an ample evidence of peace, unity and co-operation that exists within the people of Adukrom and expressed the hope that peace, unity and love would be needed more throughout the year since this year is an election one. The Member of Parliament for Okere and Board Member of the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund, Mr Brandford Daniel K. Adu appealed to the headmaster, the staff and the community to take good care of the facilities by cultivating a maintenance culture.
He also appealed to pupils in the school to be disciplined and hardworking and learn hard saying that a pupil from the school was among the best three that obtained aggregate six at the Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE) two years ago in the Akuapem North District.
The MP said he would continue to assist the needy pupils in his constituency to continue their education and announced that he had granted one Master Emmanuel Amo Mantey, a former pupil of Adukrom United Primary School a bursary to further his studies at Prempeh College in Kumasi.
He later presented a set of Jersey and football valued at 1.5 million cedis to the school.
