The Traditional Council of Asante Akyem Akutuase in the Ashanti region has summoned and fined the father of a young man whose corpse was mishandled in a viral social media video.

The chief of the area, Nana Kofi Bediako, stated that the father is expected to bring a sheep and GH¢500 for bringing the corpse to Akutuase instead of his wife’s hometown, Adomonline.com reports.

According to him, since the deceased’s mother was not from Akutuase, tradition and customs dictated that he should not have been buried there.

Additionally, the father must purify the stone of the gods, called Brosambour, with a sheep, a bottle of schnapps, and GH¢1,000 during the ‘Awukude3’ on July 17, 2024.

Although the incident occurred over five years ago, the person who recorded and circulated the video, identified as Nana Kofi, has also been fined GH¢500. He is required to purify Brosambour with a sheep, two bottles of schnapps, and GH¢1,000.

The chief emphasized that these rituals are necessary to prevent severe implications for the community and to purify the town, thereby averting any potential calamity.

For this reason, Kofi is also mandated to bring two sheep, GH¢5,000, and four bottles of schnapps for all the rituals.

Meanwhile, Nana Kofi Bediako revealed a tragic detail: three of the individuals who carried the corpse on their shoulders have since passed away.
