Assembly earmarks five billion cedis for projects

Obuasi, March 17, GNA - The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has earmarked five billion cedis under the HIPC fund to undertake school projects. The projects include a six-classroom block for Saint Thomas, Presbyterian and Saint Joseph's primary schools at Obuasi and a three-unit classroom block at Ntonsua and Bogobri. According to the assembly's fee fixing resolution, revenue and expenditure document approved at the assembly's meeting at Obuasi, another six-classroom block estimated at 650 million cedis would be built at Anyimadukrom-Kwabrafoso, a suburb of Obuasi. Other projects to be carried out under the HIPC fund include a 20-seater vault chamber toilet at Domeabra, Kwabenakwakrom, Bidiem, Dokyiwa, Nhyieso and a 24-seater water closet for Obuasi police barracks.

The document said the assembly hoped to raise 1.8 billion cedis from the mineral royalties of which 400 million cedis has been set aside to serve the assembly's scholarship scheme.

Construction of a seven-unit barracks type quarters for the Obuasi police, the Obuasi Secondary/Technical School and a girls' hostel for the Christ the King Catholic Secondary School at Akapoliso near Obuasi would also be undertaken.

The document said 100 million cedis had been earmarked for the completion of a three-unit classroom block for Adomanu Catholic primary school.

Over 1.2 billion cedis to be generated from the assembly's traditional sources would be spent on some projects including rehabilitation of assembly bungalows and purchase of two motorbikes for the building inspectorate of the assembly.
