Assembly takes measures to boost revenue

The Asante-Akim South District Assembly is building a lorry terminal at Obogu as part of step-up efforts to increase its revenue.

The project is being funded from the District Development Fund (DDF) and the cost is put at GH¢140,787.

Mr. De-graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said the assembly was determined to expand its revenue generation base to end the over-reliance on the Common Fund for development.

There is a thriving market at Obogu – the economic heartbeat of the district, and the construction of the terminal would undoubtedly help to bring in some good money, he said to the GNA.

Reporters of the nation’s wire service had visited the area under GNA/STAR-Ghana media auditing and tracking of development projects.

It is an initiative launched to put the spotlight on how government’s resources are helping to transform the lives of the people, particularly those in rural communities.

The goal is to aid transparency, promote accountability and good local governance.

Mr. Fokuo called on the contractors, “NAFAC Company Limited”, to work hard to complete the project on schedule.

He also spoke of the need to ensure quality job, saying, they would insist on value for money and would never accept shoddy work.

The Managing Director of the Company, Francis Adjei, promised that they would meet the job specifications, use the right materials and in the right quantities for quality assurance.
