Chiefs to celebrate eclipse with sacrifice

Aflao, March 28, GNA - The Chiefs and people of the Aflao Traditional Area are to celebrate the eclipse of the sun tomorrow with a grand sacrifice.

Togbe Sogbolisa Amenya Fiti V, the Paramount Chief, told the GNA in an interview that the event was significant to the beliefs, culture and practices of the traditional area.


He said among other things the traditional area believes the occurrence of the eclipse ushers in a new generation.


Togbe Fiti said the sacrifice would begin this evening with the wearing of black clothes and after the eclipse, the black would be changed to white to usher in the new generation.

Togbe Fiti recounted that in 1947 Togbe Fiti III, then paramount chief of the area, marked his ninth year on the stool with the occurrence of the eclipse and he would also mark his ninth year on the stool tomorrow with the occurrence of the eclipse.


He noted that in 1947, one of the gods of the traditional area appeared in the form of light and was therefore named after the eclipse as "zadokeli".


Togbe Fiti called on people in the traditional area to join hands in the celebration of the event and advised them to protect their eyes before watching the eclipse.
