Civic Education Clubs 10 Secondary Schools inaugurated

Sekondi, March 29, GNA - Mr Kwaku Baa Owusu, the Western Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), on Tuesday said the country's democracy should not be built on the ignorance of the people.

He said the nation would be working towards its own destruction if it tried to take advantage of the ignorance of the people and made monetary and material gains its major consideration.

Mr Owusu was inaugurating Civic Education Clubs of 10 secondary schools in the Shama-Ahanta Metropolis at Sekondi. Mr. Owusu asked the youth to position themselves in the centre of development because they have a greater role to play in the development of the nation.

"It is very clear for the youth to develop a clear outlook of the political, economic, social, cultural and spiritual development of society, the nation and the world as a whole" he said.

Mr Owusu urged the youth to study and exercise their rights with circumspection and under the guidance of the elderly.

He said society must create conducive atmosphere for the youth to freely express their views on developments in the country. "They should be encouraged to make their observations, suggestion and opinion known and respected."

Mr Owusu said society must equip the youth with the necessary skills to enable them contribute meaningfully towards the creation of a responsible society.

Nana Osei Nkestiah, Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Director of Education, said the formation of civic clubs would assist students to properly focus on nation building. He urged them to share ideas and use their skills for the development of their communities.

All 10 participating schools were presented with copies of the constitutional game each and an abridge version of the 1992 constitution.
