Accra, March 8, GNA - The Reverend Christie Doe-Tetteh, General Overseer of Solid Rock Chapel International, has called on Ghanaian leaders to be true to the nation and never lie in their leadership duties.
She called for utmost loyalty to the State by all, especially in this election year, in order to ensure its success. Rev. Doe-Tetteh said this at a Prayer Summit organised by the National Association of Charismatic Christian Churches in Accra at the weekend.
It was set aside to offer prayers towards peaceful elections and success for Ghana. The Reverend Steve Mensah of Charismatic Evangelistic Ministry, who is the Chairman of the NACCC, an association of over 50 Charismatic churches nationwide, attended.
She said if Ghanaians saw Ghana first in all their endeavours, there would be no need to lie, cheat or for any one to corrupt another in any given office.
Rev. Doe-Tetteh noted that that public office was for service and urged those who found themselves there to offer quality service and serve the nation with all their heart as Christ did for the Church. She noted that as the nation drew closer to the 2004 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, "it is important for all of us as a nation to desire peace, truth and the spirit of service.
"Do not be deceived by the gifts or parcels that people will bring to you, in order to gain your votes. What you must strive to do is have Ghana at the heart of all that you do. Your focus should be how to move the nation Ghana, forward at al times."
She pleaded with the political leaders to desist from acts that would destroy the peace that the nation was enjoying now. Rev Doe-Tetteh charged Pastors not to impose candidates on their congregations, "but rather let us teach them to love the nation and do things that will help us rise above the mounting poverty and ignorance that has engulfed us.
"It is when we are able to do this that they can make good choices and vote for good people," Rev Doe-Tetteh stressed.
She also warned politicians of unstable minds, who keep moving from one party to another for personal gain, to be wary since they tended to confuse the masses, who for one reason or the other are unable to make sound choices.
The Rev Emmanuel Ansah, General Secretary of NACCC and Senior Associate Pastor of the Soul Clinic International Church, said NACCC along with other members of the Forum of Religious Bodies would be involved in the forthcoming registration of voters exercise.
He said the Forum would also explore the possibility of bringing together the leadership of the various political parties as a means of ensuring that the elections were held in a peaceful, safe and fair environment.
Rev Ansah asked the political parties to live in peace and not to antagonize each other since their supporters who belong to different political parties were able to live peacefully in the same church.
