LIAMS Foundation, a Non for Profit Organisation, which offers humanitarian services to children and deprived communities and advocates developmental issues in the Volta Region, has been launched in Accra.

Since its registration in 2014, the Foundation has promoted socio-economic, health, education and human rights and well-being of orphans, Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), vulnerable children, and women.

The ceremony also saw the launch of the Foundation’s quarterly Magazine, “Liams Media”, which is registered with the National Media Commission, to highlight the developmental challenges of communities; issues of NGOs and to educate parents on their rights and responsibilities.

Speaking at the Ceremony, Ms Horlali L Williams, the Executive Director of the Foundation, said as a social development organisation, it complemented the Government’s effort towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in four areas: Economic, Empowerment of Women, Access to Social Services and Child Protection.

She said the Foundation would cover Agbagidikorpe, Amegatsekorpe, Flakavi Agbledomi-Weta, among other areas, in the Ketu North District of the Volta Region.

Its administrative office would, however, be at Lashibi in the Greater Accra Region.

Ms Williams said the Foundation would, in June 2016, host Enagic USA, a Christian medical mission team of doctors, physicians, nurses and nutritionists, who would address a public lecture on Water Therapy and Nutrition.

They would also make a donation of medical supplies valued at $8million to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, the Akatsi Government Hospital and some very deprived communities.

The donation includes hospital beds, surgical equipment and consumables.

Ms Williams thanked the UKAID, the United States Agency for International Development, United Nations Children’s Fund and STAR Ghana for their enormous support towards achieving its goals.

Dr Catherine Deynu, a Deputy National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, who was the guest of honour for the occasion, lauded the Foundation for its efforts to contribute to social development.

Mr Adam Abdul Wahab, the Communications and Media Relations Officer, Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), thanked the Foundation for its partnership with the GFD towards making life better for its members.

He urged the Government to act within the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 - Act 715 - to make public buildings and all public information accessible to PWDs.
