Ghana's inflation is currently still high, even though it has maintained a downward momentum for the past few months. The inflation rate is currently above 20% with food inflation being the highest driver.

Meanwhile, income has remained the same for most Ghanaians affecting their purchasing power and lifestyle choices.

Certain food commodities especially fruits and vegetables have witnessed major price increments in recent times.

In an interaction with vendors and consumers, GhanaWeb Business' Stella Dziedzorm Sogli conducted a market survey with GH¢50.

With GH¢50, it was nearly impossible to afford different types of fruits and/or vegetables.

For instance, one watermelon costs between GH¢30 to GH¢40, whiles a small sized mango cost GH¢20. A bunch of bananas cost GH¢25 while one orange costs GH¢4.

For vegetables, one cabbage costs between GH¢20 and GH¢30, and three tomatoes cost GH¢30.

Speaking to consumers, they noted that the current economic hardships have compelled them to review their lifestyle choices. According to them, it has become difficult to afford a three-square meal and incorporate healthy choices in their diet.
