Wreckage of somebody's home destroyed by rain
A downpour that hit parts of the Jaman South Municipality in the Bono Region on Thursday has caused extensive destruction to houses and properties in Drobo, the municipal capital.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) gathered from residents that one Victor Asiedu narrowly escaped death when his room collapsed during the rains, which were accompanied by heavy windstorms.
The storm ripped off the roofs of many houses, uprooted trees, and severely damaged several buildings, rendering many people homeless.
Most of the affected persons are currently staying with relatives and friends.
Speaking to the GNA, Madam Siata Watara, the Jaman South Municipal Chief Executive, said the assembly is assessing the extent of the damage.
She added that the downpour also uprooted trees around her residence and thanked God she was not at home when the rains began. She noted that she had since visited Asiedu, who is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in the area.
Madam Watara sympathised with the affected persons and assured them that the Assembly would do everything possible to support them.
“My brother, we don’t even understand what is happening here now. A similar disaster occurred at Kwasibourkrom three weeks ago, and we are yet to support those victims too,” she stated.
Kwadwo Yeboah, a resident, told the GNA that the rain started around 1900 hours and appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to assist the affected residents in re-roofing their houses.
He added that the rains flooded many homes and appealed for humanitarian support from non-governmental and philanthropic organisations.
