Koforidua, Nov. 23, GNA - Mr Felix Fobih, a trainer of Journalists for Human Rights (JHR), has advised journalists to desist from publishing stories to settle scores or take bribes to kill stories at the expense of victims of human rights abuses. He said it was improper for journalists to publish stories without making follow-ups. They should also direct victims of human rights abuses to the appropriate institutions that could assist them to seek redress.
Mr Fobih was speaking at a two-day workshop on human rights reporting for journalist in the Eastern Region at Koforidua on Friday.
Ms Jessie Johnston, a Canadian journalist with the JHR urged journalists to educate the people on the many organizations established to protect human rights such as the Police Service, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and other bodies.
Ms Johnston explained that, by so doing journalist would be fulfilling their responsibility of helping the voiceless and also helping to educate the public on human rights and avenues available for them to get redressed. Topics treated at the workshop included human rights reporting, good governance and ethical journalism amongst others.
