Correspondence from Upper East Region

A restriction of movement within two feuding communities in the Kasena-Nankana Municipality and West District has been announced to take effect today, Friday, April 24, 2020.

The restriction has become necessary following some reprisal attacks in the communities three days ago over a piece of land to site a facility.

Although the Municipal Assembly in close collaboration with the law enforcement agencies have been able to douse the situation and brought tensions under control, more measures are being put in place to bring absolute peace to the area.

In that, the Kasena-Nankana Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC) in conjunction with the Kasena-Nankana West District Security Committee (DISEC) in accordance with the Restricts Act of 2020, Act 1020 has through a statement issued, announced a ban on the movement of people in Doba and Kandiga traditional areas from 6:00 pm to 8:00 am until further notice.

The statement also announced the prohibition to carry arms or similar harmful implements in the two communities.

The statement further warned that persons who flout the directives will be properly dealt with by the security services in accordance with the law.

Below is the full statement made available to GhanaWeb’s Senyalah Castro.
