Ali Adolf G. John, the Minister-designate of Northern Region, has given the assurance to tackle the root cause of conflicts in the Region because “I don’t want the Northern Region to be tagged as a region always fighting”.

He promised to strengthen the various district and regional security councils to prevent tribal conflicts in the Region.

The nominee gave the assurance when he appeared before the Appointment Committee of Parliament on Thursday, for vetting.

“Under my tenure, I will work to ensure peace and harmony in the Region to ensure sustainable development.

“I will work closely with the traditional authorities to prevent conflicts in the Region, instead of resolving conflicts,” he assured.

John, also the regional chairman of the NDC, pledged to make the agriculture sector in the north attractive to investors and boost food security.

“I will promote irrigation-based agriculture to boost all-year-round farming in the Northern Region,” he assured.

The nominee assured that upon approval, he would ensure that young girls and boys from the Region would be placed under master craft men and women to be trained in various apprenticeship programmes to learn sewing, hairdressing and trading.

That, he said, would prevent the youth in the northern sector from migrating to the southern part of Ghana, especially Greater Accra.

Asked whether he was aware of the hostel, the NPP government built for head porters, he responded in the affirmative, noting that, every good policy implemented by the previous government would be reviewed and continued if it would benefit the people.
