The Korle Bu Senior Staff Association (KOSSA) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to completely dissolve the board of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) as the best way out of the administrative changes going within the hospital.
On Monday, July 7, a letter written by the Minister of Health, Sherry Ayittey, asked Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital Reverend Albert Okpoti Botchway to hand over duties to the Acting Medical Director, Dr Samuel Asiamah, who will act as new chief administrator of the Hospital.
Speaking on TV3’s News 360 on Wednesday, July 9, Charles Ofei-Palm, the President of KOSSA, indicated that a meeting will be held on Friday, July 11 to outline the way forward for the Hospital from the perspective of the senior staff.
“We shall make sure we issue a communiqué,” Mr Ofei-Palm, who was queried by Rev. Adotey for sending a petition to the Presidency, said.
Rev. Botchway was by the letter written by Ms Ayittey, however, reverted to his position on the board.
“[In]asmuch as we appreciate the removal of the CEO, we believe the best way out is to dissolve the board completely,” suggested Mr Ofei-Palm.
The senior staff of the Hospital demanded the dismissal of Rev. Adotey accusing him of financial impropriety.
Mr Ofei-Palm said a forensic audit should also be conducted into the appointment of directors and logistics procured.
He also announced the staff's preparedness and readiness to work with the new CEO but advised him not to follow the ways of his predecessor.
“One of the things that happened to the previous CEO is that he doesn’t listen to advice. Anytime we approached to have a conversation with him, he turned us away. He told us point blank that he deals with the presidency.
“We don’t expect Dr Asiamah to do the same [but] be a good listener.”
